Just did my final candle and I ended up with 13 alive instead of 12. 18 to start, later found out that 2 were from a pen with no roo, so really out of 16, I have 13. Pen 1 roo is definately doin his job. It was so cool to show my 4 yr old a chick moving inside an egg...Cool fro Dad too! No more candleing for me, just waiting.......

Hello, been reading to catch up with everyone.
So far I pulled 1 clear on day 7 from the bator. I peeked/candled the eggs under the broody and they appear ok. These are dark eggs so I am judging by shadows and smell.

Rita has been doing a good job on her 6 eggs. Saphire has decided she needs help though and has moved into Rita's nest.
Saphire was the only Wyandotte girl that did not go broody yet. Guess she feels that the tiny Silkie, Rita, needs the extra help. Rita is so mellow, so I do not mind Saphire taling on the mommy support. Infact, I am thinking about taking the other 6 eggs in the bator and giving them to the girls as I feel yhe hens do a much better job.

Well, it was good to make it through week 1. Sounds like others are having eggs hanging on too. Hope everyone gets heathly fuzzy butts.

Hey guys just found y'al!l I set 8 welsummer eggs on 7/22/11 hatch date is 8/11/11. I candled last night welsummer eggs are very dark so all i could see was a dark mass past the air bubble, I think that means a baby chick is forming

all 8 have this black mass in them good luck to you guys!!

Mine are due on the 7th, candled (again) today and seems like i've lost one since day 10. Left it in there, but there was a definate ring to the dark blob and could not see veins. This has been a frustrating hatch, I"m hoping the 4 eggs that are left come out ok!

Sounds like everyone is having good luck for the most part. I am worried about my girl atm. Its been so hot these past few days down here in socal and rained alot yesterday so its been very humid. I ask her how she is doing all the time but im still waiting on that reply, lol.

I've taken water bottles and freeze them, and set out by my broodys when they are panting and look hot. Seems to help them. I also put a cup of cold water right by their beak so they dont have to get off the nest for a drink. I wouldn't worry over much about the humidity.
