Setting 7/21 - should be due on 8/10 anyone else?

I candled my 8 Bantam Partridge Wyandotte eggs and I think I lost two.

They looked like quitters. I was uncertain on one, so I just put it back in. I'll keep a nose to the incubator just in case.

Here are the photos I promised. Sorry they're so blurry. I tried to enhance them as best I could.

This is one of my two quitters. This one is definitely a goner.

This one shows great promise.

I'm pretty sure this guy is going. I saw movement although the shell is rather porous.

Here's another healthy 15-day-old egg.

This one is very peculiar. The air cell is shaped very weird. I hope it's nothing serious.

By looking at this air cell progression graphic, it appears that I'm right on track.

Sunday is lockdown for these guys. I started out with 20 shipped eggs and I'm hoping to get 6 to hatch. I only paid for 6 — so, I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Wow - welcome to all the new hatchers!

I candled last night Day 13 and of the original 14 we now have just 4 eggs left - the rest I checked and tossed b/c there was no growth/change since Day 7. I couldn't see very well through the (1) Wheaten Penedesenca & (1) Ameraucana/Araucana - but they are both larger in mass then previously so I'm leaving them for now as they don't stink. The (2) Ancona I could see their veins moving in their shells. I'll candle again on Day 18 before lockdown. So exciting - just a week away from new chicks.

Here is a pic of my 10 yr old playing with our 1st batch of now almost 3 week old White Leghorns on their 1st time out in a temporary exercise pen.

Gonna lockdown on Sunday night, still have 13 healthy eggs. I have been more or less doing the dry hatch method, it's so humid here anyway. I think I am going to make some hatching cups, I saw a post about them and it seems to help with the cleanup and with the hatched chicks knocking the others around so much. Good luck everyone, hope we all have an abundance of fuzzy butts!

@1acreroo... I used styrofoam egg cartons last hatch, with the bottoms cut out, and it helped keep the eggs up and closer to the heat source as they were in the turner, plus kept the ones not yet hatched from being knocked about. Worked well, will do it again this time. I do the dry hatch method as well, have had better results with it. Very humid here too, and HOT.

Uh oh - I just looked at the calendar - seems Lockdown Day 18 is MONDAY! Wow, where did the time go - I'm not ready for another flock to come - the brooder still has my 3 week old Leghorns, the coop is almost but not yet done, the run hasn't been covered and I haven't painted - I have to do all that by Weds? I may have to mix up a 2nd brooder real fast and let the new hatch use the heat lamp - the 3 week olds don't need heat anymore.

This time I'm going to try hatching in the paper egg carton the eggs arrived in - with the lid cut off and the bottoms cut with a bigger hole. Such an exciting time- looking forward to 4 new little peeps in the house. Praying for everyone to have a great hatch and healthy chicks.
