Setting and hatching in December? Come join us! - Holiday Season hatch-along

I just turned my little eggs again. I get so nervous doing it. How do so many folks do this by hand? I'm so afraid of breaking the little eggs! Getting to feel the warmth of them for a few seconds is nice though.

when i turned eggs by hand i put them in egg cartons and used a cloth in the incubator. i would prop up one side with the cloth then just switch it to the other side for turning them. was so much faster.

If she spends 3 nights in the nest, she can probably be trusted. Just let her have the golf balls and if she stays 3 nights, let her have some eggs.

i'm just worried, plus she keeps pulling eggs under her. I do not have a rooster. All fertile eggs I have i've bought. Wonder if she stays on the golf balls if i could just put newborns under her after they hatch.

Oh i should add i moved little miss broody into a carboard box in the nest. That way if i choose to bring her in the house to let her set on eggs i can simply move the box and her all in one so she can keep her nest. LOL. Guess i should set up the playpen with a top on it for her. and then set up a lamp on a timer to come on for daylight and go off at nighttime. *sigh* so much work.

made up my mind. I moved my broody in. giving her a few days if she stays broody I'll put some eggs under her and check on her at least a few times a day to make sure that her eggs are being kept well. That way she can hatch a few of them. :) I love watching a hen with her babies.
I got her specifically for the broodiness. Might as well use her.

So I just got my eggs(21) YAY! But I noticed a few of them are slightly soiled with just a few streaks. Are those eggs going to be ok? Should I clean them, wipe them, rinse them, or disinfect them before I set them in the morn?

Good luck with your broody. I hope she does a good job for you

I don't clean mine unless they are real muddy or something like that. Good luck!

Yay another group of crazy winter hatchers lol is it ok if I join you guys. Ive got 24 blue orps arriving tomorrow and at least 10 swedish flower hen eggs they were suppose to be here a week ago but got lost in the mail so the seller kindly resent them for me. I was gonna try and set half on the 4th for a christmas day hatch then set the other half along with another order of SFH eggs for the NYD hatch does anyone know how long I can store the eggs for it would be pushing 2 weeks for some of the orp eggs if I waited till the 11th
