Setting and hatching in December? Come join us! - Holiday Season hatch-along

No more lightbulbs for heat :D Taking out 180w of bulb, and stepping up to 675w of heating elements/ Adding an indicator light and adding another turning rack. Also adding a wafer thermostat to the coolerbator and should have it running full time as a hatcher :)
I'm planning to make an incubator on the same lines as yours. I was also planning on heating elements instead of light bulbs. I think I'm going to use sliding shelves with turners instead of racks though. Not sure what kind of thermostat I'm going to use. I think you have a digital one with a probe, right? Post some pics of the element install if you can, I'd like to see that. Thanks!

Sure thing, and yep im currently using a digital reptile controller. So far so good with it, it's a dual controller both temp and humidity. Not something i would go out and blow 100 bucks on for an incubator, but having it on hand I might as well right :)

AHHHHHHH my power went out a little bit ago. I was so nervous for my eggs I didnt know how long the power would be out for. I wrapped my incubator in a comforter and then heated up my truck with full blast heat. Luckily the power was only out forabout 45mins and I never even got the incubator out to the truck, I was about to move it when the power came back on. The temp in the incubator had dropped to 88degrees but humidity was at 66% eek but everything is back to its normal ranges now though. Sorry for the long story lol Who would have thought a bunch of eggs would ever get me so worked up lol.

Read some threads on here. people have had eggs go stone cold, lose power for over 24 hours etc, and still have somewhat successful hatches. I on the other hand have backup generators both gas and diesel so I'm not really worried even with our somewhat crappy power grid down here.

I just got my eggs set. I have 36 eggs that were supposed to consist of Plymouth barred Rocks and White Wyandottes. When I went to pick them up this morning, she said while she was sorting eggs her son helped her and she is sure a couple Copper Maran eggs got in there too, so I was pretty excited about that. I have always wanted Maran eggs, but couldn't justify the cost of them. We will see what we get when they hatch Dec. 27th. :)

They will be a mix of a few things lol.. I have an EE roo and a pure breed Ameraucana roo that have been on my girls. My girls are Easter Egger's, Olive Eggers's, Black Copper Marans, Blue Copper Marans, Barred Rocks and Buff Orpingtons. So these babies will be Barred Eggers, Easter Orpingtons, Easter Marans etc.. lol..

My EE roo is white with rust colored wings and green legs. My Ameraucana is pure white with slate legs. The girls are all different colors.

My Ameraucana roo. I hatched him from eggs I got from someone on BYC.

He is bigger now, this was when he was about 8 weeks old:

I like the look!!White and rust wings. !!PRETTY!! Wonder if they will have blue or green eggs?
