My RIR are almost half way through the incubation, on wensday they will be. Can't wait till these hatch!! Only have 7 eggs in a 24 egg incubator cause my others were ruined :(. However I'm getting in more from members here hopefully by wensday or thursday and HOPEFULLY the mailing process won't be so harsh to them.

They were laid that morning, sat under our broody Orpington, and we collected them that day, and sent them to my son. The next day the same. We collect the eggs each day, even from under "Michelle" our broody. S I know for a fact they were 15 days to hatch. Could be it's because constant temp? ie a hen would let them rest by getting off, eating and doing her business then back on ? Either way, they're doing great!
Thanks

AGH I wish I could find eggs the way you do lol I live in the country have checked craigslist and put out request for fresh hatching eggs and nothing your like the egg whisperer :)

Did you post on BYC on your states thread and mention your looking for hatching eggs? You might get some relplys that way. No better place to search for eggs than on a chicken website lol.

Im on day 7 today and this morning before I got the kids off to school I decided to candle one egg for them in the bathroom. It was great they were so excited and there was movement in the egg. I love that they get to see and learn stuff like this. It was a nice moment :)

That's so cool. I watch my just turned two year old grandson from six in the morning till six at night while his parents work and he is in on everything I do. At two he has a grip on where eggs come from and that chickens come out of them. His face stays glued to the incubator window when they are hatching. I know the moments you are talking about.

i'm envious... I have tried to get my girls interested but they are just too grown up (even though they both live at home), I showed one
the chick moving around while candling a couple of days ago and she said it was creepy!!!

to them it's just another one of
Mom's crazy projects. How cynical we become as we grow.

I have the same problem and ditto to all you said Momma
All the ppl on BYC and in swaps here but hard to find ppl anywhere close to me with breeds i want So Odd!!
Most are 2 states away....so order from BYC or Ebay
HAve to even if the hatch rate is low.
I idid also do what Marine did .....drove 3 1/2 hoiurs one way for some rather expensive eggs
Only way i would pay that better chance to hatch.
.

HAHA my grand daughtetr is the same....... my odd grandma and her dogs and chickens
She lives here,.
I found since i have gotten older never turn down an opportunity to learn a new thingI try and impart that when i can.
You never know when it may come in handy later in life as life takes you down paths you never expected in your wildest dreams. or mine has for sure.

Anyway My grand daughter likes to see if they star cracked but the novelty is wearng off for her....13 ....WAY too many important thing to do.
She does like to do the eggtopsys usuallly Shes into bones .
Would LOVE one of mine to be interested in just one hobby i have only becuase then they would become experienced in a new thing but hasnt happened so far
I am so thrilled to hear or see of a child who has an interested in some hobby like this. or any new experience
... With chickens there is the art of hatching, chicken caretaking and feeding, (feeding has incuded fodder and fementing.) and carpentry A LOT!!!
.I am learning myself every day

That is too weird!! I am not an old soul on here but this is the first i have heard of 15 days
What kind are they?I have heard of 17 days I dont think the constant temp would do that to that extent as most ppl on here dont open the bators much and some not at all. but who knows.?
What else could it be?
Super fast growth harmones? HAHA
If it were set a little too high maybe day 17. His are a whole week early
though
