I'm day 20 with a batch of Exchequer Leghorns, Mottled Houdans and some local barnyard eggs (very productive mixed flock) to fill the incubator. I woke up to 1 cutie freshly hatched, one of the local eggs, of course, not the expensive shipped eggs! Went out for a feed store and breakfast taco run, came home to a second barnyard egg hatched! 2 mutt chicks cheeping away. I refuse to open the incubator, keeping humidity super high to prevent the problems I had last hatch, fingers crossed. I really, really want those Leggerns and Houdinis to hatch, having several quitters from both and an entire batch of Buckeyes not develop (all the purebreeds were shipped eggs). Of course, hard lesson to learn, those local eggs do so much better. Those barnyard eggs were collected, put in an egg basket, packed in a carton and sold to me for eating and I just put them in the incubator just for the heck of it (trying to test my methods) and, lo and behold, 11 of the dozen made it to lockdown. Son of a gun.
