Setting eggs on Thurs. Nov. 10th - Any buddies? Hatch due Dec. 1st

Yea! Two of my chocolate orpington project eggs have pipped! It's only day 19, too. Can't wait to see some little ones hatch!

Yiippeee for you! I have 3 pips. I can't stay away from the bator and they must be taking a break. Nothing from the rest of the crew.

I just took the flashlight and educated my 14 year old son on what a pip looked like so when he gets home from school tomorrow he can give me a full report on the eggs. He is not nearly as interested as he should be!! Geez!

Still, I think it's good for kids to be involved. Maybe when he sees a chick hatch, he'll get more into the spirit of things.

don't you just hate that when people don't want to look at and talk about your chickens all day long....!

That is great about your pips...I have taken tomorrow off so I can watch...I am actually not feeling the best again but will check on the bator later...

I have a black silkie 2 month old who now has a 'crooked neck'??? I don't know why now? So I am now thinking I will have to cull her tomorrow as it is worse today... This is making my stomach hurt as well...

Sorry to hear about your silkie. I have one that has developed a "twitch" that I am afraid I will have to do the same. She's about 2 months too.

Hope you feel better!

One egg is zipping, but it doesn't look like its cutting the membrane. I hope it is. I reallt don't want to have to open the incubator!!

My Nov. 10th egg is now a chick! This is the coolest.

I did help, I didn't expect there to be a pip this early, as my little bator has been struggling to keep up in my super cold house and the temp as rather low for the whole incubation. Anyways, my fault the humidity was only 45% when it pipped, and that was at night, so it was 'dry' for a few hours at least.

I opened the pip a little bit and the chick was cemented in and struggling. So I did the bad thing and helped it the rest of the way out...

There was more blood then I would like, and I had to tie off and cut the cord attaching the chick to the egg- I hope that's ok? Still sleeping right now... Pics when I can find the camera!

I didn't understand your sentence above. But, it is not good for your 9 yr old or anyone to be opening the incubator while in lock down, especially while chicks are pipping. The humidity will go too low. If it was open too long the chick(s) can shrink wrap. In other words stick to the membrane. I hope that it makes it. Be sure the humidity is up. I have mine at 70% humidity. Some say 65% is good. I recommend you do a search on BYC for shrink wrap or start a new thread and ask for expert help. Label the thread to draw attention. This might be the best way to get quick advice.
