Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

Good points. I had to open it several times to turn another batch that was in there, which obviously slowed things down a few hours. Temps have been pretty high for the most part, 97-103. Several of the 5 in lockdown are "blacked out" so I'm hoping tomorrow (day 20) they will pip. I wonder, is it reasonable to think they'll pip tomorrow considering how many times I've opened the incubator? My humidity doesn't drop much, it's the temp more than anything. Since they're blackouts I would think they would hurry it up and hatch tomorrow but I'm new so I have no clue. Anyone care to pitch in some advice?

Yea, opening it alot ain't good :( b/c 97 degrees is low and 103 is kinda high & since they say temperature determines metabolism I'd imagine yours might hatch a tid bit later, not sure on that, I know its hard but I'd say just leave em be & keep watch.

Yes and I've even candled during lockdown (though it lasted only a few seconds for some of the eggs. 3 blackouts I pipped for various reasons, so they were out of the bator for 1-2 minutes.) If you see the post I replied to Denise, could you answer please? I'm hoping my turning and candling hasn't slowed them down more than a few hours. Tomorrow I'll get home around 5:30-6:00 & I'm hoping to see some action then. Now I have the bator raising humidity and temps. It'll stay around 63% humidity and 96-98 degrees.

I'll work on it. They have long stretches of hours between turning since I can only turn 3 times a day, and it's very quick, but that still leaves time for lots of humidity to leak out... I'm going to go raise the temps in there !

Is there a way to duck tap the incubator closed? Lol! Just kidding. I am trying so hard to not open it.

Seriously! It is killing me. Before lockdown I was ready for lockdown because I was paranoid about touching/turning. Now I am dying to know what is going on in there.

I opened it earlier because another post got me paranoid about my chicks drowning due to my humidity being too high. I candled one quick and it was still kicking. So I guess I am safe since the same post said to lock down at the end of day 18 and I locked down at the end of day 17. So much second guessing...

I have seven bouncing chickies so far, playing soccer with the rest of the eggs! And I'm fairly sure they are the cutest chicks ever to hatch on this green Earth.

Which reminds me, I had a question! Just how long can they safely stay in the incubator after hatching? Googling gives me 24, 48 and 72 hours as possible answers, which isn't terribly helpful.

If the yolk sac was used properly, they should be fine in there for three days !! Although I would do a maximum of 2. pictures, please ! ^.^
