Joining in! I set 16 eggs on August 22: a mix of French wheaten Marans, Wyandottes (silver laced and blue laced buff), and Brahmas (buff and partridge). My incubator is a fan-forced hand-turn Hexabator type. Day 4 candling shows 15 of 16 are developing, despite them being shipped eggs! This is my second hatch.
WOw great start for shipped!

Aw woke up this morning and ran to the bator. One of the silkie eggs rolled and cracked. I took it out and opened it up, and it wasn't fertile. I guess I wont be having any silkies hatch

Not quite sure why it isn't fertile, but I haven't had the silkies for too long so I don't know thee behavior like I do with my other chickens
Why do you think you wont have one hatch at all? thato ne egg is just a dud .The others may be perfect....Wait a while and see what develops

Well its been 26 hrs since I put my eggs in! Doin good so far, temps staying at 99.5-100 degrees & humidity's staying at 52% pretty much., my dad made a hole in the incubator lol to make it easier to put water into it, so we can add water w/out openining it up now, he put a hole, w/a tube from old aquarium equipment w/a teensy funnel - hehe, I'll go take a pic....

Yes a hole, a straw or tube and syringe is the best way to do it.No opening.. pretty critical in Lockdown.

Well, I candled all of my eggs and only one has veining. The other silkie egg is clear as can be. I have breeding cages that I stuck the silkies in (since the hen lays her eggs wherever she dang pleases... Middle of the coop, in the food dish, under our carport...) and I never saw the too mount her. I have another roo that I am going to stick her in with, and maybe they fancy each other better.

Last post for now ...i am just blabbing along ......Just read back the posts so far. Hadnt followed this thread but then broke down and bought eggs last night .(Slap me!)Should set by Friday.so iwill be the end of this week thread hatch.
See we are telling our bators.
I have a Genesis (I guess) 1588 and a Hovabator 1602N (Not using the turner Going as al naturale as i can ) .Should be just using this geneiss except for the first day or so while my LB's hatchSAt..
Going to put in Lavender orps

I only was going to candle one egg...but once I started I couldn't stop :D. Last night was day 4 so I guess this would be at 4.5 days. I see stuff!!! It's so exciting! I can see why it's so addictive. Of my 4 australorps I think 3 aren't going to develop, but that includes 2 that had (and still have) detached air sacs. Can't see any light through my ee/ameraucana egg. The sussex and faverolles I can see dark blobs and veining in a few. I had such little hope after their rough shipping & four were crushed, the remainders were covered in the mess. Question - in many I see the dark "blob" in the top of the egg - large end - but the clear part is in the bottom pointy end. Is that normal?

I dont think the original four were fertile :( <---- sad face :( oh well, the roo and hen were only togeather for like 4 days before I started collecting, I am going to wait for 3 more eggs (lucky me my hen lays EVERY day :-D ) before I set my next batch .... so that will make nine for this try

i rigged mine too. I dont have a turner, so I used that little space to run a skinny aquarium tube through. It was small enough to squeeze through the wire flooring and into the trough. I don't open mine either.
