Setting Today (03-02-2012)

My "brother-in-law" wants to see a chick hatch. He just isn't understanding how long it can take for them to get out of that egg. I don't have an actual PC camera, either. Someday.

Are any of you planning on streaming your hatch on the web?

I am not planning on streaming live because i don't know how but i do have a flip camcorder and going to upload some hatching while and during the hatch since i know it can take hours.

i do have a question...

I set my eggs at 8:30pm on 03-02-2012 on 03-20-2012 will be the 18th day. But when exactly on the 18th day do I set up for lockdown? In the morning or night?

any suggestions for first timer lockdowns?

technically you're not suppose to set them into lockdown till day 19. they say days 1-18 are normal turning days with lower humidity. then day 19-21 is lockdown. but i usually put mine into lockdown sometime on day 18 simply cuz i'm so excited. but i heard someone on here with a good idea to wait a bit longer so your water will last and you won't have to open it up to add more. that's a good idea. haven't done it yet though. may try it with this one if i can keep my hands off the eggs! lol! so i guess in answer to your question, i would put them into lockdown in the evening on the 21st.

My last hatch I started lock down at the same time I set my eggs. I'm probably going to do the same for this hatch, which is 3pm for me.

oh yeah, i've heard that about bantams. hmmm....after this hatch, i'll be hatching bantams and LF together. what would i do in a case like that?

I'm currently hatching standard size eggs and bantam eggs. I just put the bantam eggs closer to the door so I can grab them if they hatch earlier.

i might set for the 18th since that is what the instructions say on the paper that came with the incubator.
does setting the eggs on the 18th instead of the 19th do any harm?
