Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

I went to bed last night the hatcher was fine. I had pips. the humidity was 67%. fine right? I woke up this morning the humidity was 44% the piped eggs were in trouble. I do not usually help but the chicks were crying trying to get out of their drying membranes. So I helped out 4 of them. They had absorbed the yolk so they were ready, whew! that was a close call. Unfortunately two were already dead. They died due to my lack of attention.

I have never had that problem before but will watch for it in the future for sure. I still have two eggs that are just now piping. I will try to get back later with some pic.

Gloria Jean, thankfully you were able to help 4 of them. How are they doing? So sorry that you lost 2.

The only time I had an issue with shrink wrapping membranes and low humidity was when I use a fan in the bator. I figured the constant air blowing must have dried them out. I've not the issue since I took the fan out. I use the turner only with still air now. I usually get my humidity around 60% or so for hatching. Good luck with the 2 remaining eggs

Most are EE and the roo was wheaten Ameracuanna, the others have an ameracaunna roo,over different hens. I hope the dark ones are hens, They should be olive eggers if they are.

Gloria Jean..they are soooo cute..!!
I have 8 chicks under my broody in the coop..Forget getting a picture..they are elusive lil buggers. I went to move her to the broody pen I had set up and out dropped 8 chicks..I was so surprised!

Tomorrow is lock down for me. ..I will know how many are going in. I am hoping for 24 good eggs! and 24 hatch! Wishful thinking..

I will get pictures of mom and chicks soon...

You can attach it to thick sheet metal and make a safer and more ambient heat source, reduce the size of your light bulb and save some $ on electricity.
