Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

Hi All, I have 11 hatched and 7 more pipping right now.....it's been a busy afternoon over here. I'm so excited! Humidity is doing great around 60% to 64%

Fisherman's Wife - YAY for hatchlings and more pipped eggs...take pics when you can. You're busy with company.

Vicki - congrats on the pipping and hope the shipped eggs start to pip next. Maybe baby orps by morning

Melinda - how's your temp doing? Hope it's ok now. That can be scary.

mlmills79 - lockdown is exciting...keep us posted on pip activity.

A quick check in! I have company through Saturday, but we have all been enjoying watching the hatch. I have 5 adorable silkies so far, and one more pipped. I had one that pipped a big hole and then did nothing all day. I did the cardinal sin and opened a corner of the bator to grab it,and sure enough it had died. That happened to me last hatch - breaks my heart. Was not shrink wrapped, so I have no idea. I hope I get at least one more baby. The one that pipped I discovered had pipped the wrong end -so I had to turn it over in the carton. Hopefully it will do fine.

Glad to see pics of new babies and hear how things are going. Delisha, I hope you have some pips by morning! I hope to post picks in the next day or two. Everyone is still in the bator, and it is not conducive to pictures as it is an opaque plastic! Once I get them in the brooder I will take lots of pics!

Good morning! It's Day 21 officially! Latest count is 18 hatched and 3 more pipped. I was up and down through the night as I heard thrashing around in the bator.

Humidity is good and they are hatching with ease....no shrinking wrapping! I had one Welsummer pip the egg and cut a dime size hole but died in the shell over night...not sure why.
I hate when that happens. Maybe it was a weak chick.

Fishermans Wife - CONGRATS on the 5 babies! Can't wait to see pics!

Actually, I look Like I have been in a fight. two very swollen black eyes, yikes. from having nose surgery. But don't despair it has not stopped me. I am getting things together for an order of eggs this coming week. I love hatching. These will be for my BR.

My eggs are almost all done and I have one pip in the silkie eggs!! So they are going to arrive, I am not sure if they are coming today or tomorrow. The other shipped batch should start pipping tonight. The top of the bator is filled with moisture from the Orpington. My humidity has raised to 70..ugh.

Well my first try at hatching shipped eggs was heartbreaking..... I ordered 24 shipped eggs and received 30. Of these 3 were broken from shipping. I put 27 shipped eggs in the bator, only 6 made it to lock down. Of these 6 only got 1 to hatch, the others died in their shells around day 19 or 20. I also set 4 of my barnyard mixes at the same time and all 4 of these hatched with no problem. I have 5 light Sussex shipped eggs in the bator now with some local mixed breed eggs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for these eggs.
