Setting up today 26 May 2012.... Anyone setting can join

90 out of 96 are looking great the others were especially dark eggs and I can't tell for sure. Won't be long and I will have a pile of chicks on top of the pile that is hatching now. I am in the middle hatching right now (day 20) and 61 of the 90 something have hatched. Luckily I have customers lined up already.

Well I candled tonight and removed one egg. I have detached air sacs that had grown quite large on nearly all of the eggs. I have bumped humidity and it seems the air sacs are not growing anymore. There was movement in 6 of those seven. One is questionable. I think it looks like a quitter, my husband thought he saw movement so we put it back in....I will check again in this weekend.

I also have 22 eggs in another incubator that I set this past weekend, 12 of them are Marans eggs that I have not been able to candle and 10 are silkie eggs....all 10 of them have detached air sacs. So frustrating, but they all appear to be developing....I will candle them again on day 7.

Hope everyone else is moving along in the right direction. :)

Things are clicking along here, still no eggs that I am sure enough about to cull. I will candle again on the 10th, Sunday. Due date is the 16th, so surely should know for sure by then. These eggs are pretty dark and I haven't found a light that would penetrate especially well., but even at that all are full of shadow. So for now we are going with 10 good Buff Orpington eggs

Hope everyone is doing well!

hope i can join, i set 34 eggs on may 28th. candles last night and removed 14 for being infertile. i know that this sounds like a lot but my rooster was killed two weeks before i set my eggs. the nineteen i have left really seem to be thriving!!! good luck everyone

finally candled all 8 of my eggs, and it seems that all the solid white eggs "5" are moving and looking good. My candler isnt the best, so its hard to see in the other "3" brown eggs. I need to find time to build something better so i can see into the eggs. So far I can tell that they are all good, just really hard to see into the brown eggs. but i can at least see veining and a blob. I am on day 12 as well. This is my first time, so I only chose to do 8 eggs.

i use a toliet paper roll and a led flashlight to candle my eggs. works like a charm put your flashlight in one end and smash the tube around it and your egg on the other!! perfect fit. i have dark brown eggs too

near disaster today as the heating element in my LG bator dropped down, somehow the little nut thingy had come off of the bolt that held the heating element up. Hubby fixed it, my hero, and we are now in temp flux AGAIN, getting this temp regulated is a bear! anyway I candled the eggs nearest the droopy heating element and they are still showing veining and blob so I think they are ok. My goodness if I live through this I may never do this again! so stressful! But fun! I will do it again, but am gonna buy a really good incubator!
