This white-crested polish chick was in the last egg in the bator that had not pipped. I made a small hole into the air cell and could see under the membrane that the chick's breathing was shallow and slow. I proceeded to remove the shell and membrane. The chick was alive although there was quite a bit of bleeding. I began to see something wasn't right with this little one. When I placed the embryo onto my palm, I saw he had no skull and both lobes of his brain were exposed. He also had a severe beak/face deformity. I know this may be difficult to see but I believe it is a learning experience. I was amazed that this chick was alive at hatch and had only stopped breathing during photos.
