I have a 2yo Cream Legbar Hen and I just got a BCM cockerel (+2 others, Alchemist Blue & Alchemist Egger, all 3 from Alchemist Farms near Sebastopol, CA.) Do you know if all Cream Legbar mom hybrid chicks show sex-link characteristics with different breeds? Or just with the BCM? I'm hoping to breed some of my own!

I guess I'll be experimenting, but very nice to know the BCM roo will throw sexlinks with a CL. I really love this amazing hen, but I know her Olive Egger spawn may be very different than her. My gifted surprise little Alchemist Egger roo matured at just 7 weeks and has now become her apparent boyfriend, while my other 2yo hens are still refusing his attentions. He has lovely cuckoo feathering as of just 3 months old. I'll have to research feather patterns more. But if another hen goes broody, I may see what they hatch out, while waiting for my BCM to mature.

Any solid colored (non-barred) roo with your barred CLB hen will produce sex linked chicks- the boys will have a white dot on their head and the girls will not. And the darker the roo the more obvious to see the white dot on the chicks.

Would this also be the case with chicks be autosex from a Crested Cream Legbar Roo with another hen such as a black copper maran hen or Orpington hen? Thanks

The hen must have the barred gene and the rooster must be a solid color. Preferably the darker the better. That's why I chose a black rooster.

Just looked it up, cuz a bit confusing for me, as a 2-year newbie.

"Autosex" are purebred, not crosses, that breed true generation after generation as long as parentage has no hidden recessive genes, while

"Sex-linked" is for hybrids who will not necessarily breed true after the first generation.

So Punnett Square's UK Geneticist Reginald Crundall Punnett's amazing Crested Cream Legbars are an autosexing heritage breed, while their chicks crossed with a different Heritage/cross breed are (at best) sex-linked! (Imagine hiding that middle name.)

Since I hope to do this next Spring with Melody, my CCL hen, and my new Black Copper Marans cockerel, I'm starting to pay close attention to the correct terminology. Hoping for "sex-linked" Olive Eggers!😘
