Hiya! This year we got 5 chickens from our local hatchery, vent sexed as female. Of the first two, one ended up a roo 😅

Well, we have 3 more who are still too young to say definitively, but I'd love some opinions if you've got them!

The first is 6 weeks old, an Easter Egger ("Cornfritter"). This is bird #1.

The second is about 4 1/2ish weeks old, a Splash Wyandotte ("Perfect Pickle"). Bird #2-- Pickle has kind of a crooked beak-- either bonked it or came out of the egg wonky. We love her anyway, and it's not impeding eating at all.

The third is a Lavender Orpington, also 4 1/2ish weeks. ("Princess Kay"). Bird #3.

I can take more pictures if anyone wants a different view, and I'll be sure to keep this thread updated as they get older!

Thanks guys!

The last two are a bit too young to definitively sex but no one is absolutely screaming cockerel. Your first bird is a pullet
I really hope you're right, I just adore her. The thing giving me pause was the little red splotches on her shoulders-- there's a billion Easter Egger threads and in all I've combed through people have said that's something to look for 😅

I wouldn’t bet on the the orpington being a cockerel either. I had one I swore was a cockerel from very early on. She is still laying eggs somewhere in Montana lol. There was a cockerel in that bunch but he wasn’t obvious until closer to 12 weeks.

The first is a pullet. The other two are still a little young to tell definitively, but neither of them looks like an obvious cockerel at the moment. Wyandotte pullets generally tend to redden pretty early too, so I wouldn't be too concerned yet.

- 5 Week Update -

We're getting a little more feathered out! Princess Kay's comb has gotten no redder (it really shows up more pink in photos-- in person, it is pretty yellow/pale)

Perfect Pickle has lost a lot of floofies on the neck. Wattles are a little pink?

And Cornfritter still looks like a dirty pigeon.

6 week update for the little guys!
It's crazy how much they grow-- it doesn't seem like a lot, until I'm looking at the pictures I posted last week.

Princess Kay's comb has stagnated, hasn't gotten any redder or bigger.

Pickle continues to vex me-- hopefully still looking like a little pullet? (feat. my spouse's tattoo of one of our cats)
