I’ve never had cemanis before- so I’m entirely new to the whole sexing them thing. I only have one chick and (s)he is 2 months old now. What do you think (s)he is?

it’s really weird- doesn’t act like a cockerel at all. I have it in with 2 small Ameraucana chicks that are about 2 weeks old (the Cemani is about 11-12 weeks old) but will move them around and coo to them and with sit on top of them as well

I've heard of adult roosters brooding a nest, sometimes take over 'mothering' the chicks. Gotta remember, his job in life is procreation and protection of the next generation. Your little guy may just have a lot of paternal instincts.

I had a 4 week old white silkie cockrel. He is all boy now, but he let four younger chicks huddle under his wings when they were all in the brooder. He was so sweet. Now, he torments the only other silkie we have.

I have Cemanis as well, but my reply is about my Silkies. One of my hens had 3 babies, one died so we have 2 left from her clutch. When they were about 2 months old or so, she collected another clutch, went broody and basically left her babies behind to sit on the nest. My big boy "Blue" who is the father of the babies, basically took over at that point. He escorts them around the run, bringing them to food and water, he sleeps with them at night and they are always tucked under him as well as they can be. He basically became the primary caregiver for them when mom became "pregnant" again. It was quite cute and heartwarming to see dad step up, rather than just leaving the babies to fend for themselves.

Roosters are more than just alarm clocks and battle axes, they have squishy hearts too. Hahah
