that's a great tip; it still requires handling the bird though. But I'm sure an opportunity to try it will occur sometime and I'll give it a go then .

I can't think of a way to weigh a chicken that doesn't involve some handling, but I learned from Shad that if you handle chickens after dark, it's a lot easier. For light, a head-mounted torch on the red light setting provides light for humans that chickens do not appear to see while leaving hands free. I got my head-mounted torch in a fishing tackle shop.

getting them to walk onto a scale on the floor works; I got the idea from a TV show on life behind the scenes at Chester zoo. All their animals are trained to walk onto appropriate sized scales. My problem is trying to get a chicken onto a kitchen sized scale

I had Naine de Tournaisis with about this colouring. The name of the colour is tricolour and is very similar to red porcelain/speckled.

OK it's definitely not Greek. I'm going to guess Turkish, they've got a large number of brahma people there, as well as quite a few people working with this color as I've seen. Both my girl are Turkish line as well
