Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Glad the coop weathered the storm, and happy to see the egg!

I laughed at the description of Henry's rear end.

Re: supplements...there's a fair amount of evidence that the foods we eat do not contain as much nutritional value as a few decades ago due to depleted soils, and for many it's not possible to get enough nutrients from just eating. I did my research, came to the conclusion that certain supplements would be beneficial for me, and since then have experienced a difference in my overall energy levels and health when I don't forget to take them.

My D levels have been extremely low for years despite living in a more temperate and sunny area, being out in the sun a lot. Even prescription strength D didn't help raise my D levels, until I started taking K along with it. My D levels more than doubled within two weeks of starting K, and are now at optimum levels.

I choose to take supplements because I can see, feel, and prove how I have benefitted from them.

Now, tax...

My two boys, walking together, no hackles raised, good.

Hope @Perris and the whole chicken crew made it through okay and glad the allotment coops stood strong!

We went through Hurricane Helene at the end of September. Our property was fine, but neighborhoods 3 miles away were washed down the river. It was reminiscent of images ManueB shared from Storm Alex in the French mountains last year. Hard to put into words. We were helping others clean for weeks. Houses and businesses had 3-4' of thick, gross mud in them.

Anyway, it took up to 4 days to hear from friends in different parts of western North Carolina. Several had to hike to places with WiFi signals to send messages out.

Cross-posting from my own journal, since I think people here would find it of interest:

I am captivated with chicken culture, their societal structure, interactions between birds. This morning I checked on the flock, found a cold egg in a nesting box. While I was standing, just observing, I witnessed two of the pullets going in to lay, and the two cockerels in attendance.

Silas and Zacchaeus guide and observe two of the pullets getting ready to lay their eggs. The vocalizations are fascinating to me.

That lot is definitely going airborn if a 60mph gust hits them.:D
Oh yea of little faith! They survived, rather surprisingly

The same wasn't true for all the trees here

and these were casualties in the field in front

and on the way to Swansea there were numerous sites of wreckage

Anyway, we've just got some power back after we lost it Fri night-Sat morning. Hope to catch up soon!
