Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

You don’t want to ‘not know’ if there is a chance something will happen like in the Valencia area. Better be safe than sorry.

So many warnings as you describe is ridiculous. Isn’t the amber alert for missing children. Sure they don't fall from the sky.
While it's true it is handy to know if a major storm is on its way the government warning on the phone came the day of the event. Not a lot of point in that. It's already happened.
Now if they could let us know a week or so before those of us who have chickens or other pets and livestock have time to do something to secure coops etc.
Yesterday I took anything loose and likely to go mobile off whatever surfaces they happened to be on and stored them elswhere or tied/weighted them down.
The field coop fortunately is pretty robust and strong wind resistant. Other peoples coops may not fare so well in storm force winds.

You should be able to disable some of those. Probably in the safety and emergency section of your phone's settings.

VERY happy that I wasn't taking a sip of my tea when I read that! It would have been all over the laptop! :gig

In the US and Canada they use the Amber Alert for missing kids. It was named after a girl called Amber who had been abducted.

A few pictures of the damage.

A few trees down in the lane. No loss of life or limb at the field. It's just more mess to clear up.
One and half hours today. Still windy but at least the rain had stopped. Needless to write the chickens were not impressed with the weather. The coop survived unscathed and unmoved.
Another egg!

Henry trod on the edge of the feed tray when a wind gust caught his rear end and made him stagger. Plenty of wind resistance at Henry's rear end.:p

Glad they are OK - and wow, the coop did well!

Glad the coop weathered the storm, and happy to see the egg!

I laughed at the description of Henry's rear end.

Re: supplements...there's a fair amount of evidence that the foods we eat do not contain as much nutritional value as a few decades ago due to depleted soils, and for many it's not possible to get enough nutrients from just eating. I did my research, came to the conclusion that certain supplements would be beneficial for me, and since then have experienced a difference in my overall energy levels and health when I don't forget to take them.

My D levels have been extremely low for years despite living in a more temperate and sunny area, being out in the sun a lot. Even prescription strength D didn't help raise my D levels, until I started taking K along with it. My D levels more than doubled within two weeks of starting K, and are now at optimum levels.

I choose to take supplements because I can see, feel, and prove how I have benefitted from them.

Now, tax...

My two boys, walking together, no hackles raised, good.

Joanna wants to see what I have, is the phone some sort of treat?
