Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Understood. No worries. 😊
@Shadrach
I found this thread yesterday and I am now on page 104…it’s like a book I can’t put down! It is absolutely amazing how you have brought your little lot on and they are very lucky to have you! I know you can’t/won’t take money as donations, but what about supplies…
fencing, chicken feed etc, it would be lovely if we could help you build them a lovely secure home that they deserve.

I realise I now owe you a fortune in taxes…can I give u an IOU until next week..I’m a bit skint after Christmas šŸ¤£šŸ˜†šŸ¤£

Slip died this morning, underwieght in freezing tempeatures having been bred to produce ten times the amount of eggs her poor body was capable of.
She did get a few hours of living like a chicken in the last weeks of her life.
I did sit in the coop run last night for a while with her in my lap trying to warm her up before I slipped her in the middle of the others. She didn't struggle or object in any way and all I could think to say to her was sorry.
She was honoured at the end. To my mind, that's fitting.

There shouldnt be a problem with supplies @Shadrach

Does Simile have pin feathers coming through or did they all get plucked by the other hens?
She has got some pin feathers now but they are so slow to grow. I haven't seen any bloody bums for a bit so that's good. A problem that I don't have an answer for is C keeps putting bird seed in the feeder and they prefer this to the pellets. There is nothing like enough protein in the bird seed and despite emptying it when I get to the allotments the chickens will have eaten quite a lot by the afternoon.
I have tried talking to C but unfortunately they think they can feed the chickens on any scraps and crap they can pick up on the cheap. It's the same with the bedding. C begs bags of shredded paper which is fine for a dry coop but, well, wet paper just doesn't dry out while straw whch costs money doesn't hold the water. C tells me they chat to a group on Facebook and that of course is about the worst place to get information on chicken care. Every crank and nutter seems to post there.

No to the money or supplies but thank you.
I haven't done the tax calculation yet but if you're on page 104 and not a chicken picture in sight I think you would be better advised on getting a lawyer rather than an accountant.:p

Just Henry.
Henry has stopped, mostly, eating the treat food I give him now and drops it for the hens. He knows now that I'll make sure he gets his share once he's "tested" the treats so to speak. Makes him look a real gent as far as the hens are concerned.

He looks like a perfect gentleman too me ;)

Back and forth this afternoon due to the rain. They only got half an hour out in the allotment run despite me being there standing in the rain for two hours.
I'm going to have to sort out some easy put up and take down person shelter because I'm running out of dry clothes!

It would be somewhere else where they could get out of the rain while outside their run .

Four heavy wood posts and thick plastic ontop, high enough for a folding chair you can sit on.
