Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

And here is my only non-chicken pet on site; Titus, a western hognose putting down her weekly meal.

We have a deal!:celebrate
There have it seems been consultations in my absence. None of those consulted supported the new shed proposition. All supported the new coop option. One has undertaken to supply a bag of layers pellets each month in exchange for whatever eggs I can spare each month.
I'm kind of in charge of chicken operations it seems.
I just knew I could get this sorted eventually.:fl

I'm going to order the coop next week. There will be some people power available from next week onwards.
Congratulations! This is great news! :hugs:celebrate

No wonder you were sick:rolleyes::D

You get yourself on a plane over here before you do yourself a mischief and we'll drink some of the proper stuff.
Do you consider Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenfiddich to be proper stuff? If so, it is a lot cheaper to buy it here than to fly across the pond. The comradery would be nice though.

I have a little extra pocket money at present and I may add a bottle of good scotch to the shelf. What are folks suggestions wrt aged single malts?

What a wonderful place to live! The mountain view is gorgeous.
Thank you! I sometimes get the feeling the hens enjoy the view too.
My father called that remedy a hot toddy. Made with bourbon or moonshine. My wife knew how to make it also which shows that all cultures know a good thing 😁🥃
I think it kinds of work for all the things that will get better if you get a good sweat before going to bed!
Well, one week in and Skeksis Jr. appears to still be doing well. I introduced the baby to Skeksis outside of the coop, and she completely ignored it, preferring to nibble on some vegetation.

These two are snuggled up in my lap.

I have a feeling you are dotting on those little things more than the mother hens.

The plan is to get the coop into the run and leave it in there open while I dismantle the old coop.
I'm not going to try and add it to the existing coop.
By the time I've rescued what I can from the old coop and dug the broody coop out of the mud the chicken should be used to the new one being there.
I'll be getting some help to get the coop into the run, but after that the rest will be down to me. That's good by me. I can go steady and the chickens won't get stressed.
This sounds like a sensible plan!

That's very good news. Shows how right you were to be stubborn and consistent.
I confess to drinking a large glass of Scotch a bit before bed last night.
Was that to celebrate the news on the coop front, or to help with COVID 😁?

Warning all : this post has nothing to do with chickens, please bear with me and I will pay tax at the end.
Even though I don't have any COVID to cure I had to have more than a few strong drinks yesterday evening. ("génépi" made from a plant we harvest high in the Alps mountains).

This was due to the fact that yesterday we began demolishing the roof of the two older houses on the property, some of you may remember when I explained we had to secure them as they risked falling down. We hired someone to do the job of rebuilding the wall and the rooves but we're helping with demolition (and also have had to bring all the materials in, as the last 300 meters can not be accessed by car.)

I feel so sad that they will never look like this anymore, but we had no choice, either to put them down or repair with modern materials. The lower house just below is the one we live in, so we couldn't risk them tumbling down.

A little tax that cheered me up this morning : the bantam couple dustbathing with the Ex-batts. Their relationships are evolving slowly toward more peaceful interactions 🤞.

I don't drink much but enjoy a tipple from a Glemmorangie 25-year bottle I was given.
Apparently the Japanese are making really good single malts (I can hear Shad shuddering) and I was given a bottle of something Japanese recently so will try it next as the Glenmorangie is down to its last few shots.

They are in a brooder in my living room. The hens aren't raising them.
