Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that the term 'treat' when applied to chickens is at best haphazard and at worst fatuous :p
Somewhere in the thread that Shad linked which really had me shaking my head at times (and incidentally also had me admiring you for engaging and being able to remain polite), there was a definition of a treat that was 'anything dried, bagged or sold as a treat'.
That might be too narrow but it seems more practical than the 'anything but commercial feed' view of a treat.

There was an experiment conducted where I live that found cats do indeed have routines and habits. My friend's two cats were participants in study and wore gps trackers for 6 months. Turned out, every day they were not in the house they gathered with a bunch of other cats a few houses up the street for the daily cat conference!

I have a coop just like this.

It was my first coop with the first 8 chickens I bought.

I still have and will probably use it with chicks again.

engaging and being able to remain polite
I like a challenge... :p
My problem with the
definition of a treat that was 'anything dried, bagged or sold as a treat'.
is that it leaves the decision to producers and marketers, who are not, in my experience, the most reliable sources of information :D

Just want to share that Caramel, the hen that was the subject of the discussion about going to the vet, passed during her surgery.
She is the second ex-batt I'm losing in a week to a reproductive problem : https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...-a-1h45-trip-to-the-vet.1539953/post-26000995

We are now certain we won't hesitate to have the next chicken die at home.
We buried her beside Vanille.

So sorry Manue.
Each situation is different. Don't decide before you have to.
