What did he think of the chickens?

I think a lot of people just haven't thought much about chickens. Initially some people are enthralled by their antics but after some serious obsevation one realises one is not seeing antics, mostly it's reasoned behaviour. That takes a while. Maybe I'm a bit slow but it took me five years of chicken watching before I had confidence in they know what they're doing; from there to date it's been trying to work out why and how they do what they do. It's the path to complete madness.:old:lol:

They are addictive.

Their little personalities rope you in...

Today I realized I had run out of oyster shell flakes in the run, so I went into the shed to get some more. The new unopened box was in a paper bag, to catch spillage. As I pulled the box of flakes out of the bag I heard a scurrying sound. Inside the bag was a thumb-sized brown roach (they live outside here). I brought the bag into the run, called "Chick chick chick!" and as the hens came running I dumped the roach out of the bag.

STAMPEDE!!!

One of the Dominiques got the roach and managed to evade the others, went in the back of the run to savor her prize in private...

I guess those people didn't care enough to observe it.
Could be ignorance. So many people view animals as possessions which is really sad for both the animal and those people. I don't think the callousness is intentional, they are just wired differently, and while we all feel people like that should not have the responsibility of care for an animal, they feel it is their right to possess something they want. :-(

I took a guy I talk to at the flat complex to the field this afternoon.
He did a lot of weeding and the more he did the happier he looked.
well done you! It's been shown time and again that gardening is good for body and soul, and growing things you can eat is good for the guts too!
What did he think of the commute?

Over the years I've realised how common that has become. People don't know anything about chickens, or farm animals in general

I find it terribly sad that we consume chickens so frequently, but know nothing about them

Glad you took that guy to the allotments, I'm sure it'll help him a lot
