Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I'm not overly worried about contagion. What I am worried about is Mow and Sylph making the poor chaps life a misery while he finds his feet. I might be lucky. They might just go "ohhhh yummy, it's a male" and roll over, or crouch, most likely with Sylph.:D
Well you best select a really hot guy that is completely irresistible!
Hope it goes as planned.

Wonderful opportunity and I hope it works out well for all.

What can you tell me about Nybro, Glais and Lulia @Perris ?
I've lost rack of who is related to who in your group. I'm interested in whether the parent/s were large birds and their temperament, position in the group.
I think I'm looking for a mid size to small rooster mainly because possibly at some point I'll take in two or three rescue hens who would also be on the small size. Henry was a gent, even if it was due a lack of interest in his later years. A maturing cockerel on the other hand...

Are any of them crowing?

If only there was a plan.
There’s a plan, and it’s coming up to the surface, and it will make sense.

- one thing I’m sure of is that, once Mow and Sylph get past the “who’s this chicken eating our feed?!” stage, they will be delighted to have a guy back in the coop. They benefited greatly from their time with Henry.

The Elven bunch have completed their first month of life. I’ve been a few days late with the update.

Their personalities are shining through more and more.
The list of possible cockerels is also growing along with their personalities.

Play fights are a multiple times a day occurrence, but I’ve yet to capture it on camera.

I’m surprised at how tight knit they still are. They all have their moments, and Galadriel will ditch them for a moment if I’m holding any meat, but she’s still a fiercely protective mum, and they still follow her closely throughout the day.

Speaking of how they send most of their day, here is an accurate picture :D .

She wasn’t happy I was trying to take photos of her chicks without her permission.

The darker brown chicks showing mum that they have been doing their natural cover homework.

Three hours today. I stayed late to have a calmer look at Mow's feet. She's not limping as such; it's just that one foot bothers her when she turns or traverses uneven ground. I think the toe she broke gives her some pain if she places her foot in certain positions.

It's the fruit bush at the end of the flowerbeds that got the chickens attention today.

It was dark by the time I had finished with Mow and asked them both to submit their "perfect cockerel" essays.

Asking a lot from the phone camera but it did better than I thought it would. Unfortunately, the purpose of the picture, showing the partial eclipse, got lost. It did happen.:p
