She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Poor little thing is lonely, and has learned that if she jumps on top of the brooder plate and cheeps at the top of her lungs I'll pick her up.
My sister had a chick like that, we ended up putting a gosling and a duckling in with it, they turned into the best of friends

Well I might have a line on some EEs or OEs to keep Solo company. Should be hatching tomorrow. Problem is they are up in Los Alamos and it takes a couple of hours to get there.

Oh well, if we drive the back way it is a really pretty, and much better then settling for a couple of hatchery Barred Rock or RIRs.
My very first chick (my special needs roo) was an only chick hatched in September when no one has chicks. If he wasn't out with us, he wasn't happy. He became very spoiled very fast.

th
he's gonna be just like me which one is which

You are wise. I would rather drive for a few hours than have a hatchery grade bird for years.

When I was a young Kid my Dad hatched all of his Gamefowl eggs under a hen. Everything was single mated ans the eggs were left in the box for the hen to hatch, usually around 15-18 eggs I have seen hens go into the hay loft and set in the middle of the winter. Don
Why do you think they can get away with it Don?

Is it possible they are starting to develop early and kind of pause while the hen is off during the day? It seems like I read a study that a big meat bird hatchery did where they tried that, but I can't remember what the results were.

Just my luck she is a he.  I'm cockerel cursed.  If I pick up a couple day-olds Thursday, they'll probably both be boys, too.

Makes we want to go back to Legbars - almost.

Appears I'm having that same luck. Ducks and chickens! 3 out of 4 ducks, 2 out of 3 polish, now both my silkies! Geez. Better luck with the ones you go and get! (and with my new eggs!)

Didn't walnut post something once on a study about starting the incubation and halting the process? I read something along those lines somewhere......

Ok SC, you've heard my opinion. If you think these silkies are beautiful then I will stand behind you and eat crow. This is what I'm up against: (the last one scares me!!)

Oh wow...
You'd think friends of my brother would have better taste :gig
I'm just picking at you because you were talking about the red combs. Doesn't hurt my feelings at all, I know they are pet quality.
Mine still look better than those, though.
And shocker, I totally disagree with Amy. That last one is hideous. No wonder they don't like BYC. They probably asked Don what he thought of them :lau

It's definitely not what I'd be looking for in quality silkies....lol But there's just something about him....the clarity in his eye. Almost a case of so ugly he's cute. He's unique...lol
