She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I don't even know how many have quit yet. Some are in the process of quitting right now. The veins are receding and blood rings are starting to form. Some still look really good. But after I saw 4 or 5 that had quit I just got overwhelmed and forgot to keep track of which 1's were still good and which weren't.

That what happened with the filthy eggs that I had, 10 out of 12 quit. I believe they had bacterial infection. I should never have even tried to incubate. When you finish be sure to sterilize all your equipment. I removed the quitters as soon as I realized. I had one hatch from that batch and she had problems.

Can't say as I know him. Any of you guys raise any quail? I just started and am finding it difficult to say the least. I have 101 eggs in the bator now but with the luck I had with the last group I need to do some learning on the fly

I was going to ask what issues you were having but then I saw your next post...below.
I had 26 recent hatches in the brooder and I now have 2. They just up and died. I enjoy looking at the little buggers but I ain't about stuff just up and dying. They looked great this mornIng and would be dead by dark baffled

I only hatched one quail chick this year and it died two days later because it would not drink! It just got dehydrated and went to sleep and never woke up. Are you sure they were all drinking good on their own?

@RubyNala97 sounds like you are having a great hatch. You really deserve it. It really goes to show the difference in quality of the eggs not your technique that was the problem on those last hatches. Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Thank you so much!! This hatch is going great. Either they are hatched or pipped! I may get 100% hatch on these shipped if all the pips hatch. I, honestly believe it all boils down to how much damage the egg suffered in transit. And my new theory is that a little higher humidity helps keep the air cells stable and not drying them down is better.
Today is not a good day. This stupid storm blew my front door open cause someone didn't close it all the way after they went out and all 3 of my dogs got out and attacked our pot belly pig, luckily she's ok though. Then I candled my eggs and alot of them are quitting on me. God I wish I had never washed them. I just wasn't thinking when I did it. I can't get anymore cause there's no way my husband is going to drive me all the way back up there again. We were on the road all day that day. 1 of the breeders told me they'd replace the eggs but I'm leary about shipped eggs after that last batch and I don't think she's ever shipped eggs before so I don't know if she'd do it right. And the other breeder, which was way more expensive, won't replace them. Especially since it was my fault that they are quitting. So upset right now.

Megan, I'm so sorry!! Are you getting red rings? My advice is, since you washed them, do not touch them! If you want to candle just wipe the candler down with disinfectant and hold it up to the egg but do not handle those eggs. How many are still doing good?

Next time that happens, you might try checking somewhere on how to clean them up w/o actually washing them. I've seen it somewhere on here, but don't recall offhand just where it was.
Yeah, I think you're just supposed to get the majority of it off with a dry paper towel and then set them with what you couldn't get off still on them. I wish I had done that but I just wasn't thinking when I was washing them, I don't know why in the world I did it cause I knew you weren't supposed to wash them. I'm kicking myself for it now.

I hate to say,it buy I think that's whats going to happen with these.

I'm still not quite sure, I'm thinking about candling them again so I can see exactly which 1's have quit and which 1's are still ok. Yeah I've been using hand sanitizer every time I absolutely have to touch them and try to keep the candler off of them too.

I have never seen wild quail down here. They are quite rare now apparently. I wonder what the rules are to hatch and release into my woods. It would be nice to see them and heat them doing their thing. I believe that the Bob whites were native to this area.
When we moved here in '73 there were pheasant & quail all over the place. I used to step out the front door & work the dogs on pheasant, literally. Then no-till farming caught on big-time & both species disappeared. It's my contention that the chemicals used in no-till killed the weed seeds, which are a dietary staple for the birds. The pheasant lasted longer than the quail because their systems are larger. I haven't seen or heard quail here for 30+ years unless they came from my own stock, and very few pheasant.

What do you have brooding Amy and SC flocker
I have a couple broodies sitting on eggs. My black Jap banty has 3 developing standard eggs under her and if they hatch should be around Wednesday. My Spitzhauben went broody on the first and is sitting on 5 eggs. 2 you can see for sure there's development, one might be, can't tell and the other two I don't think anything is going to happen.

Good luck. We might try some Bobwhites next spring.

When I was a kid we had ringnecks all over and large quail coveys everywhere. By the time I left home, they were nearly gone, with no changes to the number of houses or tilled acres.

What did change is the orchards stopped running geese and started spraying weed killers, and the corn farmers started spraying herbicides to combat weeds. Not Roundup, as that wasn't around yet, but other herbicides. The quail and pheasants were gone soon after, as well as crayfish and mussels in the creek.

Absolutely!

Most of them lived past the 2-3 day mark where dehydration takes them out little buggers would be running around the box without a care in the world then a couple hours later dead
