Yes. I share his tools and then he puts them in some weird obscure place the next time.

This same man I had to train for a few years so we didn't have to do - the car keys hunt- everyday. I can't tell you how many places I've randomly found coffee cups.

Menards is a special trip for us because of the distance. This is what I've got to work with and will have to make it work.

I had to try to find a gas station in rural NE Ohio once, so I understand. Any old hardware store ought to sell porcelain sockets, though. Not sure if you have ACE hardware, but the old ones tend to have everything.

I have 3 that look like this. The yellow in the middle then the darker colored (embryo/s??) goes in a big waves. High like pictured, rotate 1/4 turn goes low, another 1/4 turn high again then low again.
Will be interesting to see what happens! Keep us posted!
my phone wont zoom but it sort of does. In the middle of yours to me looks like a dark < is that what you are talking about?
I meant the "cracks"...they are not really cracks but I thought so till Ravyn explained they formed when the egg formed. I couldn't see your pic good so was just wondering if what you thought was a crack looked like my pic.
Im really considering hatching for that man, yes... He wants me to. Says he can sell the mess out of the peas. On the other hand, i have to say, i Could Not sell them, and if he backed out id be Stuck. Its in the air. Im mostly hoping to gain his goats milk, whether we trade for hatchlings or whatever, i need lotsa cheap milk for finishing birds and feeding calves. I had no idea your neighbor threw out so many good eggs! Those eggs are usually worth alot... I will be in touch, thanks! Have a gday everybody!
Ooooh, I gotcha! Sorry, I misunderstood what you. He wants you to hatch them for him!! That's what I did last spring. I hope it works out! Sorry, I thought you were just looking for pea eggs.
I wouldn't throw good money after bad buying the plastic panels. I made that mistake 40 yrs. ago when I built my 1st kennel. I used the special strips that match the peaks & valleys, the special nails with the rubber grommets, & the wind still tore them up in no time. What the wind didn't destroy, the UV did. SC had the right idea; go with the galvanized panels
Ok, thank you. I will look into them for spring.
It's crazy how addictive hatching is. I've cross posted that I will hatch my eggs or someone else's eggs...I need a hatching fix and won't be able to hatch any of my own before March.
X4!!! Me too! Dang, I can't stand not having the incubator plugged in. Plus brinsea just sent back my one incubator that crapped out on hatch day.
Looks more like a blemish in the shell from when it was formed... wouldn't worry about it... as Ronott1 said, cracks glow really bright when candled... and if the membrane is compromised you would be able to see a slight discoloration spreading out from the crack w/out the light... After all his complaining about ducks in the house, my OH is going crazy about the Call eggs we're getting now... looks like we're in for winter brooding ducklings... :/ If he complains this time I'll make him take care of them... :gig
Where will you brood them? Did you set any yet?? I'd really like to follow your hatch closely, when you do. So please let me know!

So its probably safe to say the dark line is just the shell itself. I am probably being overly worried because this is the first time I have seen veins & movement in all my duck eggs. More so since I am parting with 2 of my drakes tomorrow.

Keep an eye on that egg. Lines can be the start of a blood ring infection. If so, then the embryo will die and the inside will go clear, no veins and a mass where the chick was.

I've got the promised pictures of Monty.

Crowing his little puberty voice away.

Here you can see roughly his 'mullet'. It starts at the base of the neck and down his back.

Also, is it possible to figure out which chicken laid which egg in a photo based on color? My girls are all mixed together but two of which are Dominiques and will make sex links with Sue. I was hoping I could spot the eggs by the color and try to focus on incubating them. The other girls are two GLW and two black Australorps.

I was really hoping I didn't have to go out again and get components for the incubator... Especially since those smaller sockets look twice the price of the wide base ones I have on hand. We'll see if stubbornness or practically win out there. I guess it depends on if I have bolts and nuts in the garage....
