She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Best Hova out there is the Genesis 1588, but that will set you back approx 150, no matter how you slice it...

Otherwise, I would go with the 1602n, it's still air and between 40-50 bucks depending on where you find it...

The big thing is that temps aren't as critical for the last 3 days as they are for the first 18... you don't want a spike, but a little low is ok at that point...

ETA: and still air is better if you need to assist, otherwise if you leave it closed the whole time a fan is fine in a hatcher...

I like to be able to open. I don't open more then twice a day, usually but if I need to I want to be able to without panicking. This is the first hatch that I actually lowered temps, since I was running high. So I see what you mean.

Mine has a fan and we know how well I leave mine closed at hatch. ;)   lol

I've had my eye on the 1583 Hovabtor. It's a bit cheaper than the 1588, because it's not all digital thermostat and all but has the same picture window. I want the picture window...lol

Yes, I agree with that. I'm so used to not having digital controls that I doubt I would trust them much if I did. I need a window!! I prefer a dome but with better capacity! ;)

SC thinks windows are pretty darn important....lol

I love being able to see in the Octagon, and I trust the digital. Digital is nice if you can trust it

ok, serious question without a smack. How do you breed towards, darker eggs, when all hens are laying light? Do I have to take the time to single mate to a white egg bird, then raise those chicks until laying age to see who is carrying a double blue gene?

One quick start is to mark birds that hatch out of the best bluest eggs, and breed those. That's how I get olive (manzanilla olive color) out of EE + red sex links. I hatch out the EEs from the darkest brown eggs and keep the pullets to mate back to the EE roo.

Yes, a brinsea digital I would trust. And I'm not knocking a hova when I say this, because I have not looked into them much, but can you really trust a digital in a styro?

Ruby, I have my Brinsea set on 100.4 to keep the Spot Check at 99.6 at top of the eggs. I was surprised when I put the Spot check in there and had to up it that much. That room stays a little cooler than the rest of my house though.
