She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Interesting concept. The nearest big breeders to me are 10 and 12 hour car trips. The ones I most want are a 4 day trip. There is no way I would call that close enough to drive

Unless I get stopped by the Ocean, any excursion can be made into a Road Trip = they are my favorite kind of vacation!

PS: I drove 11 hours each way to get my Orloffs. Had a great time and stopped at some really neat towns along the way.

Can't wait to read how your humidity experiments turn out!  I also want to see pictures of the zorb and get your impression of it.

Ok, I'll take some pics today. They sent a lot. Not sure how many yards but it's a lot. I cut out a paper towel sized piece and I'm curious to see if it pulls moisture or releases it. My Eco sat over night with both wells full and running with a calibrated hygro and it was at 48%. I'll let you know how it does over 24 hours with the zorb.

I put 7 silkie/cochin eggs and 2 eggs that I believe are Katherines (dont really expect them to develop, but what the heck) on turning only, will add heat tomorrow and add the quail eggs Tuesday.
The quail grow faster, just not as big. They eat (and poop) alot!
I've got a couple cute pics to post, gotta switch to desktop lol
Hard to believe the girls will lay their own eggs in 6-8 weeks!

Good luck with the humidity tests! I'll be anxious to see what works for you!

That's interesting you said that you have them in and turning but no heat. I've thought of doing that with eggs I was going to set. Easy way to keep them rotating without having to do it by hand. I was wondering if anyone else tried that. The quail pics are so cute!! They are supposed to be amazing layers! So do you have housing set up for them? I'd like to see whatever you go with. I've looked into keeping them before and thought about stackable cages. Are you going to keep them in pairs or trios?

So!!!! I have a full incubator with 41 eggs in the turner!!! Super excited!!!

400

Good luck, Ross!! How were the air cells on the silkies??

That's some dedication there!

Eggs look great Ross!! Woohoo!!!

Ruby, seems like I read about somebody putting eggs on the turner without heat, waiting. Maybe Walnut? But I've done it a couple times now, and yes, it's much easier than messing with hand turning while collecting.

Got a real nice silkie egg today, so I just added it to the bator too. Why not, right? Lol the heat has been on for less than 12 hours, soooo.

I think I'll eventually keep pairs or trios of the quail in separate cages. Depending on what colors I end up with. I really like the Rosetta ones. The Pharoahs are already jumping almost out of my tote, and I bet they could if I left it uncovered. Its 14" deep! And they are like 1-2" tall and only a week old!

Friday, speaking of long drives, I've found a source for silver sebright eggs in NC. If I can get my sister to swing by when she goes to SC, I may not have to make the trip, but they'd be worth me driving for! I'm not opposed to driving for quality.

I've seen a few people that store their eggs in their turner.
