She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

You know it might.  I think the ones that are still cooking had almost no air cells.  I'll have to look at the dates and see if the freshness has any correlation with survival.  They were all less than a week old, so it probably didn't matter.

Found someone in town who has some interesting birds, but nothing I really want.  Will just have to be happy with my Orloffs and Halfloffs for now.

Less than a week old is great, but if it's really dry where they are the air cells can get bigger faster than where it is more humid... I don't have W/BW or I would offer... :/

Thanks - but like I've told others, you'd be sending them to almost certain death anyways.

I think next time (yes, I do like to throw money away every so often

) I'll let them rest a bit in the incubator with water in one trough without turning it on so the air cells don't grow as much.

Doubt it could hurt anything.

Well, I do have Lav/Black pullets laying now....

Just a thought...

What do y'all suggest setting the temperature for a still air incubator? And do i rotate the eggs and if so how often per day. I plan on hand turning 3 times a day. The set is mallard eggs. Thanks.

Still air at 101 and I dunno if there's an exact time to rotate the eggs around... some do it once a day, some every couple days, and some just randomly move them around when turning... if you don't have hot spots, it's not necessary... just go with what feels comfortable and works best for you... :)

And good luck on your hatch! Go duckies!!!

How's your garden this year? We started a SQFT garden and after building the beds(cake) and ordering the dirt(expensive), hubbs threw his back out and spent almost 3 weeks on the floor. Well, I say threw it out. . . his hip was dislocated, shoulder was 2 inches out of place and two vertebra were twisted almost 360 degrees. Poor guy! Dr said he let it go way too long. Soldiers can be so stubborn sometimes.

But that left me with eight 4x8 beds and 2 6x12 beds to fill.

It's the weirdest thing, too, now MY shoulder is going out! lol The chiropractor just loves us right now.

I am soooo ready for that lasagna garden method to be in full swing. lol
GD and I planted some garlic bulbils, and bulbs in the garden. We planted some old crocus bulbs in the lawn. I think the soil is thawed enough that I could plant some peas, early greens and the like. But it's early yet. Most years, the soil is still frozen solid for an other 4 weeks, and many of my neighbors don't plant until end of may. I have aches and pains in shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, and feet. Toss the back out occasionally. Yep, I'm in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in.

I'm down for the shipathon. Never shipped before, but it'd be a fun way to learn how! How do you go about being a part of that?
Chooks -I'd love some of your BLRW eggs, your birds are BEAUTIFUL

Just go to that awesome chart, and PM the person you'd like to receive eggs from.

Is there any benefit to spinning the shipped eggs with bad air cells by hand? I have them on the turner, but didn't plug it in. I just spin each one a few times a day, but I'd much rather just plug the turner in if it doesn't make any difference.

This is the angle I have them at.
If, by spinning, you mean rotating them in their cup, that won't do anything. If you mean tilting each long rack of eggs, you might as well be using the turner. But that's just my opinion. I've never used a turner.
