She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Okay. So, just keep an eye on him? He just seems a lot weaker than my other two and I have 5 more getting ready to hatch. Also, theyre dry but not feathered out. Its still all slicked down. I know ive been told to leave them in until they feather out....

Sometimes the fluff sticks down and they don't fluff out til they 'help' each other nibbling their fluff...

The mobile ones you can remove if you want, that is up to you... I'd just leave that one til it's stronger, especially since you have more hatching... sometimes when they get to hatching one isn't quite ready but pops out anyways in all the excitement to get out...

My pair of broody Calls hatched out all 13 of their eggs... last one to hatch was very not ready... it spent all day yesterday under the mommas... I was not sure it would make it... 5 others are exact same color as it... this morn, all 6 are running around like crazy and I can't even tell which one it was, lol...

Yep, just give them time... hatching is hard work for a little thing... and thank you... :)

I'm around 25% to 30% days 1 thru 18.. then I bump it up to around 50 to 60%.
Temps have been 99.8
I have started collecting again to try something different. I have some in the incubator that will be day 18 Wednesday. I candled last night... lost 7 out of 10. So somethings going on pre-lockdown. We'll see if I can get any to hatch out of the 3 that are left. Do you think having them next to a West facing window has anything to do with it? Everything else is hatching fine... just these stinking BCM's are making me crazy..

What Turk said drop the temperature lower by a few points to 99-99.5 always better to go a little lower. next check ambient temperature in the room and move it to the most constant spot if you can . Your humidity should be ok and there is no way to be 100% sure but my gut feeling is your getting temperature spikes . But no direct sunlight put them in a closet or something . are your Hova-bators digital or wafer thermostats ? I am not a big fan of wafer thermostats because of the all on or all off aspect of them . And P.D. check your temperature at egg top level if your not
I love this little thermometer cost eight dollars at wal mart in the cooking section and works better than the one QGF sells. just has a smaller face.it can be set after calibration. there is one in all my incubators . In the Farm Innovators I have I just pushed it through the Styrofoam close to the center to the top of the eggs I just ordered two from GQF with the big face and they cost more than twice as much and are sticky I have to tap them to get them to move

they can be set after calibration though the older one I have can't . So figure it out and hatch them eggs Girl !!!!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment on the eggs, I was really only try n to keep em a lil separated for when I ad my divider to keep the hatchlings from getn mixed up.

And as far as your ethical dilemma w the ducks... I understand your point and its something we all have to face as were penning up all our critters... But when I saw that duck at the Zoo, I have to say he wasn't any more afraid than my domestic ducks. In that pic that mandarin drake was only 6 ft away :) My Rouen aren't friendly by a long shot, they'll walk to their feed pail so long as I'm about 6 feet away, preferably on the other side o the fence. I've read how they are very wild, and I'd like to make it clear I Am Not tryn to force that poor thing to Love me, more than likely I would only bother them at feed up. Even then I still understand that they're a highstrung bird, and I will be attempting to set up their enclosure to help keep them as calm as possible. For ex; Thinkn if I put their feed right inside the door, to keep me from traipsing all thru their pen, scaring them.

Are you hatching Mandarins??? I did not mean that they should not be hatched! I hope my post didn't come across that way! For me, with the kids I need a duck they can torture...I mean love on like crazy!! I'm so curious now to hear if you are hatching them!! That is a "someday" dream of mine!

Note to self:  I will never, never, never break open an egg after hatch completion to check to see why they didn't hatch until 48 hours after last hatch.  I killed a chick today.

:hugs I'm so sorry. Been there, done that! It feels terrible!

After reading stories like yours (and they are all over BYC, you are not alone) I always open eggs for eggtopsy just like I would do an assist by starting with a tiny hole in the air cell to look for life.

Thanks for sharing, your story may help someone else in a similar situation.

Hope your eye heals well! Good luck at the doctors.

X3

(I did it to the first one I ever opened)

X2!

I had three of my ducklings hatch lastnight. Two of them are up and seem strong and healthy. The third has been laying down all morning. I just went and checked and it foamed yellowish tinted clear liquid from nostrils and mouth. He seems very weak. But they are all still in the bator. Havent been given any food at all. Im sure they can get water from the sponges I ude for humidity but that's it! What's going on and what should I do? I REALLY don't want he/she to die. :(
I posted this in the emergency section and no answer yet.

Yes, like Ravyn said, it can be fluid from the inside of the shell. Keep an eye on him and just make sure he's breathing ok. Look for anymore coming out the nose or bubbles come out the nostrils/mouth.
