She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I do the same as sjturner. My hen makes noises of warning whenever we get close, but she doesn't peck at me like other people have experienced. So, at night I just lifted her and put her to the side and checked each egg and I also just reached under her and grabbed one at a time. I've candled a couple of times.
One of ours just hatched, so excited! Good luck on your hatch.

How are you going about getting the eggs out from under the hen to candle? I tried, wore some gloves so she didn't get me but my hen was so upset by me trying to do it I was afraid she or I would bust an egg so I stopped. It was also her first time being broody, so maybe thats why she was so upset? Anyway they have hatched already last week, and we have 3 little chicks.

Hens are all different also. This is my first season with broodies. My first one was a perfect angel. I could do anything I wanted. The next was a little less tolerant, but so-so. A couple are a bit more bitchy. Now I have one that can have as many eggs as the other girls want to give her. I'll not touch her!

Yes they are all so different. Funny how that works out. I think that is why they are so addicting for me. I have eggs in the incubator, and then of course the ones that just hatched from my hen. I love having chickens, so much fun. Good luck with your broody and the hatch, I wouldn't touch that one either, lol!!

For my broody girl when I wanted to candle I removed her from her brooding room, set her in her fenced off yard and made sure she couldn't get back to the nest til I returned the eggs. She drank water and paced til I came back and I set her back on her eggs and none were the worse for wear. I did that day 7 and day 13. She's friendly so I got away with handling her in the daytime.
