She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

What kind of comb is a BCM supposed to have? I thought it was supposed to have 5 points.

Congrats! 6 months is normal for BCM? Is it the same for most heritage breeds?

Yes we hike, camp, hunt, fish, Mt Bike, snowboard, etc. I do love the mountains.

Why don't the Ameraucana Breeders **** send them a cease and desist or an official letter or at least politely ask them to stop advertising them as Ameraucana now that they are an official breed? There has to be something they can do. That would stop 90% of the confusion. If the hatcheries started calling them EEs so would the feed stores.

Nice, I would have thought you had a first a long time ago.

Good one, good one.

I think you would just get lighter shade of green. I have 2 EE/leghorn mix but they are not laying yet. They have pea combs and slate legs. I'm assuming I will get light blue eggs, but hopefully a lot of them.

What do you charge for a dozen? Clear cartons are a bit expensive.

Do any of you use DE for stuff like this? I have been using it as a preventative and have used it to rid my rabbits of mites that came in on a dead bird hiding in hay I bought from the feed store.
I read on chicken chick she does not because it can cause respiratory problems in the chickens.

Okay so here are the ones I rescued. I am treating them with antibiotics, medicated food, and the one with a hurt eye is getting Veteriycin and I just found lice! Ugh!!! I feel so bad for these guys. I dont even know what breed they are except that they are Cornish Crosses.
Poor babies. They are lucky to have you!
And to make you guys laugh.....Here is Zax with his crow collar on....the first two crows sound normal. But the third one will crack you up!!!!!!
Lmao! Too funny.

That's only because the girls on the other thread don't wake up until after lunch:gig
Hahaha....I sure do miss those days!
Well.... I just ordered a Brinsea! Not the incubator though. ;) The automatic coop door.
You got me!!!! :gig
She's really nice and helpful, and her website was one of the first I found while googling for answers with my first hatch. I enjoy seeing someone that started as an everyday chicken keeper gain so much notoriety. It really seems like you see her everywhere now. I will give her egg labels a plug. She will print custom egg labels for you, either with her own images, or an image you give her. Her prices are reasonable, she gets them to you quickly, and my customers love the personal touch. I use clear cartons, her labels and mix colors of eggs. It all comes together really nicely:thumbsup
Do you have a pic of your sticker? That sounds perfect!...I'd buy them but I don't think they'd ship well. ;)
Saw your update! Glad it's back on, that happened to ys last time but it happened overnight and we didn't know. OMG, you're too much.

What is ACV? I got this at TSC, I wanted to get some sav-a chick but they were out. This had good reviews though. It has electrolytes and probiotics. What the heck?! That can't be organic...
That stuff looks perfect. The Rooster Booster...it's all in one. Thanks!
Ayuh. Between the famuhs, and the yuppies in owa town, the town meetins can be quite lively, yuh, yuh, yuh. (The last 3 words are spoken with an intake of ayuh.) Time for an other lively competition thread. Both the blue and the brown of the green will be dominant over the white, so you're most likely to get perhaps a lighter shade of green. Unless there are some recessives in either parents... I think. Probiotics are great. ACV (unpasteurized is good, but I'd be sure to offer plain water as well if using ACV). However, I am a strong proponent of fermented feed and starting the chicks out with a plug of sod from my yard during the first week to build their immunity and give them a healthy dose of natural bacteria to jump start their guts. I no longer buy probiotics. Instead, I use soil, ACV, fermented feed. I also keep Poultry Nutri-drench on hand, and give them a few doses of that.
Can I ask, what is fermented feed? Is it the same as medicated feed? I tried putting a chunk of dirt/grass in the brooder with my last hatch. They were scared to death of it! Wouldn't go near it. I left it in a whole week (swiped it out for a fresh one every other day) and nothing, they didnt like it. But I start taking them outside for play time once they hit 2 weeks.

Bwaaahahahaha... Don't really know how I feel about that, though. Those chicks are pitiful, good luck
Why not! I got a complaint from my elderly neighbors so I had to do something. He is no worse than a freaking dog that barks all day and night long. He only crows in the morning and some around 1 pm and thats it! But they still dont like him. They say they can here as if he does not have it on. Bull S**T. They just want to B***H and complain.

I have heard that. I don't put it in the dust bath I just sprinkle it on their backs now and again and I do put some in the feed. I have a hard time believing Seven Dust is not harmful to their lungs.

If your laws and regulations do not prohibit you having chickens or a rooster then I would ignore it. I would tell them you are making efforts to reduce it and maybe offer them eggs if I had them just to keep the peace. Our first rooster is starting to crow just this week so our neighbors are going to hear some morning noise too. I hope they are ok with it. We do have a dog behind us that barks very often and early on saturday and sunday morning, but I never complain.

From what I have gleaned.
1. Standard solid color
2. Graphite colored legs
3. Blue eggs
4. Ear muffs
5. Beard

I could be wrong.

That's my understanding as well. Of all the hatchery stock I bought, the BEST still had green shanks. Green shanks are the slate (graphite) crossed with yellow shanks. Any yellow shanks or green shanks guarantee they are not Ameraucana even if everything else fits.

I don't know the SOP for colors, though.

Crowing roosters are the price you sometimes have to pay for the privilege of living where you're not listening to traffic noises and smelling exhaust all day.

Fermented feed is feed that has had water added, to make it the consistency of cooked oatmeal. You let it sit for a few days until it starts to bubble. Kind of like the old timer method of making a sour dough culture. The natural blend of bacteria and yeasts that culture into the feed break down the anti-nutrients in the grains, kind of do a bit of pre-digestion, so that when the birds eat it, it's easier for them to digest it, and they get more nutritional benefit of the feed. I never use medicated feed. A comparison of milk to yogurt would be similar to a comparison of regular feed to fermented feed. (in that the uncultured product does not have all of the health benefits and ease of digestion of the cultured product.) There are plenty of threads about fermented feed, if you're interested. Just do a thread search in the top blue bar.

So technically I am not allowed to have roosters because I do not have a minimum of 2 acres of land. However, all neighbors except the one love my chickens and rooster included. But that one can get my roosters taken. I mean they are snow birds and are only home for a few months out of the year. other than that they are always gone. so I dont see how its a problem. And I always give them eggs.
