She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I think i saw someone ask what incubator i used - if it was a Styrofoam.
It is not I would consider it to be worse than what i have seen of the Styrofoam.
it was one of these

Weird plastic thing - no indicators of whats going on and the setting dial is pretty course too.

i wish i had read all of this site before i put the eggs in instead of at day 22 when i decided i was having troubles.
I got 2 from 18 eggs. only 3 of the 18 didn't have fully formed chicks. the rest died without pipping.
I think the temp may have fluctuated and been cold thought then too high at lock down.

Have not seen that incubator either. I'll have to do more research on it. I'm in the market for a new one possibly, unless I decide to fix mine.
Up to post 1550 now -
I would love to make my own incubator but i cant seem to get hold of any Styrofoam boxes for now.
On Breeds - I want Olive Eggers with Frizzled silkie feathers and no Aracuna beards, or silkie crests. This will take a lot of mixing and be a very unique Bird. I also want the same looks in a Chocolate egger. I am making a start trying for eggs from these 2 :

The frizzle is a hen and silkie a rooster.
On assisting I'm a deep Red,
- Our first pet chook was a cull - she was blind with a crook neck but she was a much loved pet for the 4 years we had her.
So i will keep a chick alive as long as i possibly can.

Very pretty birds. Good luck with creating your unique bird. I don't know enough about the genetics to figure all that out!

Are ducks considered easier to hatch? Anyone know. Mine are just doing so well overall, specially for a spaced hatch.

I wouldn't say ducks are harder or easier. Just a little different. But yes, Call ducks are more difficult because of their short stubby bills, and small eggs.

Yeah right! I cant afford that thing right now. I wish I could have because that's what I would have started with.

On a good note....my neighbors who complain about the rooster, asked if we had gotten rid of it yet because they just got back into town last night and my daughter was like nope he is still back there. But they were happy because they did not hear him at all this morning. Crow Collar: 1, naggy neighbors: 0. LoL!!!! But they don't know that there is a second rooster or for that matter 7 Roosters all together on my property!!

They would have a freaking heart attack.

Heehee.... way to go Crow Collar! How's the roo adapting to the collar? Does he still try to crow?

Why make anything easy? That's boring!

Exactly!

He does crow it just sounds funny. He is used to it. But his crows are less frequent than they used to be. I have also have small piece of velcro on my CCL Roo (only 3 months old) so he can get used to something on his neck all the time. He is still learning to crow so its not on tight just enough to know something is there.

Velcro sounds like a good idea. I'm glad its working for you.

What in the HECK is coming out of that bator? lol
They already came out... a couple weeks ago. A bunch of little mixes. 20 to be exact...lol

Yes I guess your right but I want my Bantties to go to Good homes not a butcher home. LoL!!!

I feel both of yalls pain on this subject. My bro is not flamboyant but he is a pain in the arse.
I would so be in trouble all the time!!!!! LoL!!!!!
1) Are Banties worth the time to process?? I can't see buying a bantie for the meat.
2)Mine isn't flamboyant (In fact he thinks he God's gift to woman). It's just one of those cases you wish you different last names so no one asked if you were related. Sad thing is he used to be such a good guy. Now....

Most dogs won't go through a rat or possum sized hole. My brothers advice is to shoot the cat when you're done with the test
Your brother is mean.

that's not hard to figure out set on Friday hatch on Friday lock down Tuesday I set on Saturday lock down on Wednesday . were the eggs on a auto turner. I like the way they are supported I wonder did you follow Amy's hatch she stopped turning on day 14 .Is that right Amy day 14
I sure did. I didn't have a single pointy end pipper. I did have one that pipped on the opposite side that the air cell was on though. So technically he was malepositioned.

Kid did it!! You guys rawk!

Those must be a popular Aussie bator. You're the second Aussie I've seen using one of them. They are plastic right? What did you use for humidity the first 17 days?

You could always go with wood. Make like a mini cabnit incubator. My very first chicken is my special needs roo. He was delayed and the only survivor from my first hatch. Bad thermometer. He has leg problems and doesn't balance well. Can't roost. Can't go in and out of the coop He's my baby though. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be doing chickens now I don't think.

I am usually on here most of the night off and on but this week I am working days so I am up by 530. Got to ring that cash register cha Ching
Ew morning shifts.

Amen!

well my hatch is staggered a couple days between each. So far have two hatched, one pipped, one internally pipped, one iffy and 4 more that look like they're still doing well.
Sounds like it's going decent.

I don't know much about the American Buff but Chinese Geese are often insanely aggressive.
I don't know anything about geese period except growing up our neighbors across the road had two white ones that were mean as Satan. They'd go after the grill on the car when you tried to pull down the road. They were awful things...lol

Just found this Brower model, but the reviews aren't stellar. Anyone here ever used one? I know there are some here that use the old Browers. This one is all plastic and dishwasher safe!

And speaking of homemade incubators.... I was out in our warehouse and there's an old metal desk about to be thrown away. I was looking at the drawer unit on one side and wondering if I could make an incubator out of it. Looks like it would come completely off the desk itself. Thoughts?

(yes, its laying on its end, on the floor, I rotated the pic... no need to tilt your head...
