As a grower of the not often found, and someone who hangs out with a certified organic farmer of the "what the heck is that?", I love movies about the passion of food. I watched "The Hundred-foot Journey" tonight. Awesome...
There's a humidity alarm? I'll have to look...BTW, been meaning to ask...where in the Brinsea menu options is the one for setting the humidity alarm?![]()

Well, good news and bad news. I didn't tell you guys I've been letting a broody BCM sit on four eggs as a test. Bad news is she killed 2 before they hatched. Good news is Tate is doing his job : thumbsup
I will start collecting eggs and hope to set sometime next weekend. BCM pullet eggs with a young rooster. Guess we'll see how it goes. I'm not changing humidity. Going to go with my standard 40% and see what happens
I don't know, maybe you could glance at the clear container to see if there is any water in it?I was a joke, SC, there is no humidity alarm...so no way to know the humidity pump well is dry...they kinda missed that in making the most awesome bator...
How does a broody kill eggs? I'm honestly asking.
My layers gave me 3 eggs today, 5 yesterday, and 5 before, I think they've decided to stop laying...what's up with that?

She either crushed them or pecked them. Wasn't really a zip, more of a crushed spot on one side with feathers sticking out

That sounds like a great day!Whew! Busy 4th of July! Been working on coops and feeders and such all day. Made some shelters to hang feeders in with chutes to fill them from outside the runs. Also moved one of our security cameras toward the coops so I can keep a remote eye on them while I'm gone for a few days. And I got the littles moved out to the baby coop! They are terrified! Lol Time to kick back with a cold one (or ten) and decide whether to go watch fireworks or not.![]()

Humidity can play with the temp. Especially in styro's, IMO.An interesting observation from my styro bator. When the humidity was lower, say 25-35%, the thermometer in the top of the bator was reading off by 1.5F or so. Since I raised the humidity, the temperature has gone down, but the difference between actual and the bator has also gone away. So right now, with the bator at 60% humidity, the bator thermo matches the digital spot check thermo I got from Brinsea.
Awww, the babies from the first hatch went to the big boy coop! Mine go out tomorrow!! It's funny because all of our different batches of chicks are the same age. So when you talk about one group I know exactly what you're going through! My 7 week olds are real babies. I know they are going to be scaredy cats!! And the 3 week olds look beautiful!Moved my 7 week old hens, from my very first hatch, into the main coop today. They got picked on a little but I was also feeding the main flock so hopefully that get the big birds side-tracked. I'm checking on them every hour for a bit...I'm moving the 3 musketeers into the young flock run tomorrow, so I can put any early hatches into the brooder. The 3 musketeers have feathered out nicely.![]()
