She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

What about multi-flock starter/grower?  20 - 22% protein.
Yeah, I'm fond of lead also.  My pullets are all bred from EE roo (avatar) over:  Dominique, Rose comb brown leghorn, Pioneer, RIR, Black sex link (last year's EE x PBR), Silver Laced Wyandotte,  So... I'm puzzled.  My roo was hatched from a blue/green egg.  His parents were EE.  All of the BSL from that generation were from the same EE roo x PBR, and they lay beautiful aqua colored eggs.  But, the EE x RCBL pullets I've hatched all have WHITE ear lobes.  Blue egg is supposed to be dominant over white... So... I'm truly perplexed.

White earlobes don't mean anything when blue eggs are involved... crossing EE's over EE's alone will give a small % chance of white/cream eggs, small % of double blue egg gene, and most with only 1... if the EE only carries 1 blue egg gene, then the other will be white... each parent gives 1 gene to its offspring and chance determines which one each gets...

For the first week I turned mine 7x a day. The following week, 4x a day and the next week 3x a day. But whoever said don't turn ven amount, thank you, I'll remember that next time.

That was me, lol... sounds like a good system though! 3x is just the minimum recommended, I like your cascade down to the minimum though... :D

Oh, and don't you have a Silkie named Pom Pom? Thought it was ironic as we do too, lol...

I turn 7x first week because I read the hen turns her eggs up to 40x a day. Is the true?

Yes I do. She's my favorite. Ironic indeed, but it is a perfect name for a white silkie

5 gallon bucket... use small can, soda can, whatever, put small holes with nail in each end as close to centered as you can... string heavy duty wire through it and secure to top of bucket... push can down in center to bend wire on either side of can to keep it centered on wire... smear peanut butter, rodent attractant around can... make ramp or some kind of access for rats to get to top edge of bucket... put a few inches of water in bucket (I top with veggie oil for good measure) and rats will put front feet on can to get the bait, can spins and causes rats to fall in bucket and drown...

These rats can jump high, so I added oil to help keep them from getting out... or use a 30 or 55 gal drum...

I think that might be right. I heard they turn the egg a quarter of a turn evey half hour. Isn't it amazing how birds instintivly know to turn their eggs???!!!!

I strolled the baby over to my neighbors like I do every evening and I checked on the hen that's been sitting on eggs. I saw 3 little babies & the rest of the eggs are still working on making their appearance. When the little black chick saw me, he jumped on his moms head and started talking to me! :love

It's more like they are almost constantly shifting their feet around... I dunno about it being extremely smart though... think about how comfortable would you be sitting on a pile of rocks all day long for 3 weeks straight??? :lau
