She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have seen pics of two dead small turkeys that someone local lost in a rain storm. I think it depends on the kind of turkey. I have heard they grow out of it, but can drown in the rain when young.

Friday I think your reply got lost. I only see a quote.

She posted her replies inside my quote, so when you quote her it comes up blank

Turkey babies are soooo pretty... Do your research on Peas first... they can be obnoxiously LOUD and attached to humans...
I'd like to have some Cayugas too, but I think I'm going with Calls.

I'm staying strictly chickens. The math took a serious hold on me about 4 years ago, I don't need to start adding exponents

You couldn't pay me to keep peafowl...

I finally set eggs again last night. 19 possible OE. From my Marans roo x EE/Leghorn mix. They have pea combs so I'm hoping the chicks have the olive egg (blue) gene. I added a fan to my bator so we will have to see how that goes. Can't wait for my Brinsea Spot Check to get here.

ETA: Since the mama is half leghorn the chicks could get the white egg gene right? All the eggs in the bator are light blue.
I looked it up. Looks like you get 50/50 brown egg/Olive egg, but I won't know until they grow out and start laying. Looks like I need to build a winter brooder in the coop real quick. My wife may not want them in the garage all winter. :)

Ouch!!

I actually listed Gemma for sale, but no takers yet. I have been unable to find a mate or pair to put with her, so I thought I'd just sell her. Not sure if we can process her or not. Thanksgiving is getting closer though.

She is getting cantankerous! Pecking at all the lavenders! I'm waiting for a roo to stand up to her.
Not sure if I told this here or where, but she will not go in at night. She roosts on top of the coop, so I have to wait till after dark to go grab her and put her in.
A couple nights ago, I didn't talk to her before grabbing her and I missed grabbing a wing and she flapped me in the cheek so hard, I just knew it was going to look like I had been in a fight! Its tender, but didn't bruise, thank goodness.

They say at breeding age they get like that, mine have Never wanted to go inside Any coop. Ive read and watched how they are more nocturnal than chickens, by a long shot, as are the ducks, they never want to go inside :-/ u have that too??

Kwhite ment to grab your post. Maybe they were remarking how dumb the butterballs are? Like how people talk about the cornish x? Ive looked at a number of turkey breeds trying to convince myself i can keep a second breed.

I saw some pics of turkey babies and they are really cute. When I was younger, before I hand land of my own, I had a horse that I boarded at a local barn and they had peacocks there. They can be really loud, that's true, but it's a different kind of loud, I can't explain, lol. I think I would be ok with it though. I really do want to get some Cayugas but I'd have to have them shipped, nobody around here has any.

Just lost a mafia sized multi-quote!! I'm not going back! This app drives me nuts. Here's what I remember:

Wv: Juicey is beautiful! My neighbor has a duck that looks exactly like her! The day she came off her nest with her babies, we watched her bring them out from under the bush. She had this long, puffy white feather sticking off her head on the side above the eye. We thought it was just stuck there from her making the nest. After two days we checked and it was still there...it's a white feather growing out of the side of her black head! It makes her look so dainty and girly. She looks like a 1920's flapper girl. I'll try to get a pic. It's like this:
400

Sc, I thought the same thing about Friday's eggs! The green were so nice. Also when you lay eggs on their sides, it's much better for candling purposes, you can really see the embryo has it's floating toward the topside of the egg.

Side wing, we set together!!! I'll be thinking of you in 21 days! Good luck!

Lazy, I got permission from the quail board to put a step on it. Shouldn't be this long! Going to investigate...

She is 24 weeks, just like my ducks, and since I got duck eggs now, maybe that is more of Gemma's issue right now. Thanks! She would definitely be happier if I left her out, but I just can't. The first night that I locked up the lavenders in the big coop, Gemma slept under the coop. I don't normally lock the coops, just the runs, but I locked the coop that night so the lavenders would stay in.
My ducks stay out all the time though, so no issue with them like that.

6 years ago, I had 4 pullets in one small coop and run built after this picture:

Now I have 7 coops and pens, and need to add another pen for juveniles, and will need another for olive eggers by next year

I could seriously scrap 4 of my breeds, and still use those coops to diversify my better breeds. It's so addictive, and if you can build things you become your own worst enabler

I love my turkeys. They are really inquisitive.

Checking out my welly boot.

Lovely! What kind are they?
(love those boots too, I have the polka dots! haha)

Own worst enabler... oh yes!
