Walnut,
You ever tried to candle brown eggs?
I'm trying to do it with a candler I fashioned from a 40w bulb under a small coffee can with a hole in one end.
All I'm able to determine is the size & location of air cells, and one clear, out of 6 eggs laid the day I set them 14 days ago.
Considering the purchase of a hand-held candler, but don't know if it would show more than what I've already got.
With the exception of the one clear, shouldn't some veins be visible?
I'm not sure, because of the light brown shells, whether my homemade candler is not showing me enough, or whether there's nothing there to be seen.
Whatcha think?
Wow!!! Talk about arrogance...maybe I should join the group....lol I've been 6 days tonight, w/o a cig or using the e-cig. (Determined to kick the habit. Part of me wants to smoke, my lungs are protesting though...lol) So, it would make a nice visit I'm sure....lol
I'd be surprised. I am dumbfounded they even get half hatches with humidity that high.
So I just got FB a couple weeks ago to talk to breeders. And I was messing around with it last night and found a hatching group. So I asked to join and boy, I don't think it's for me at all! There is a sticky about the way they hatch and you either hatch their way or leave! ie. All chicken eggs must be sprayed with 50/50 water/listerine daily, humidity must be measured by wet bulb, and "dry incubation" is the work of the devil, leading to all splayed legs, curled feet, DIS, and everything else. Humidity must be kept 60-70% the whole incubation, even 80...the higher the better because there is no way to drown chicks. And if you don't agree then you're not welcome. I didn't read the sticky (I didn't even know there was one) and made a couple helpful comments here and there and was instantly corrected and told I was 100% wrong. I completely missed the security of "he said/she said"! These guys made SC look like a saint!!

"SC" & "Saint" should never be used in the same sentence.
Ross and Ruby are the long multi quote queens!![]()
Is there a little spot behind your house, or under the deck where you can set up a couple of pallets to put your stuff on? Maybe even build a little storage building?
Maybe they don't want their chicks to have bad breath? Sounds like a group of arrogant folks to steer clear of.
TYWierdos!!! Lol!!!![]()
Congrats on going 6 days with no cigs. I am proud of you.
Hahahahhaha!!!!!![]()
Why yes, yes we are but that one by Sally was quite impressive.
We'll this morning....I ran a 5k in 30 mins. Pretty proud of myself for that one and now I just laying on the sofa listening to my 9 year old black lad snoring..... Poor old girl. Lol!!!!![]()
Hey, they want their privacy.....lolThese free ranging chickens of mine are something else. Not sure if I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but I found Big Guy and one of the girls shacked up on top of the brush-hog with a tarp over it. Yesterday I found 5 eggs in that spot.
This morning I heard weird chicken noises, and when I found them, it was Punkin and one of the girls, in a little spot beside a tree, behind some spare windows (hubby's spare collection) and a wheel barrow leaning on the side of the tree. Its maybe a foot square spot they squeezed into! And one hen was watching, or maybe waiting her turn! Creative boogers they are!
