Its now been 5 1/2 hours, the malposition obviously woke back up and he is continuously trying to hit the same spot, not zipping :idonno im gna have to intervene with the first egg that piped, in my first actual hatch or else hes gonna die...

Just remember that when a chick pips at the wrong end, the external pip is actually also the internal pip. At least you know he's getting direct oxygen. So you don't have to rush. He's absorbing yolk and blood vessels are receding. When you hit 24 hours, peel a little shell off and find the internal membrane. Dampen it with a q-tip to see how the blood vessels are.

When I assisted my malpositioned pip, I took off the air cell part of the shell. That way I could watch the blood vessels recede and made sure the yolk was fully absorbed. It worked out well for me.

Three chicks hatched and four more pipped.

I think the chickens settled on which eggs I'm going to attempt.... rumpless aracauna roo over barnevelder (hatchery standard) hen. Should be an interesting offspring, and an olive egger too, right?

If the barnevelder lays a med brown egg, offspring will lay green or greenish/olive... for a good deep olive you need a very dark brown egg layer...

You're doing great... :thumbsup

Very nice egg!! And congrats on the new arrivals!!

Meant to tell you guys that were curious about my homemade steel target in the tire...
Its amazing how much lead and shrapnel ended up in the tire!
Loose in the bottom, and imbedded in the sides of the tire, so deep, I was shocked. I'm sure it didn't catch it all, and its not like its important to catch it, but I told hubby, at least if he moves the tire to mow, the lead won't be flying from the mower so much!

Pretty egg. Of the 85 or so I gather daily, there is an opportunity for a green and for a pale blue, the rest are all medium brown like most of your basket. I now have one of the babies laying, I think, as I am getting a pretty pink egg too.

I need to photograph a day's collection for contrast with my goals for next year.

Here is what our baskets used to look like, before we had to make our layers into commercial producers:

Now they are more like this:
