That's so great.
These were not her eggs, correct?

Correct. They were all standard and I don't have a clue who's they are...lol The one banty egg she had been sitting on did not do anything. My Spitz is sitting on 5, but only 2 are developing and over the last week I've had to keep kicking two others out and taking eggs because they thought they were going to go broody too...lolThat's so great.

Part of me hates how fast they loose their fuzziness and grow, the other part of me really wants to see how they are going to feather in so I can try to figure out who they belong to...lolCool how they take ones in that don't even belong to them. Wonder if the "real" momma hens will know that a chick belongs to them as the little ones get older.![]()
Oh boy! Yes, I've been screwing the lid on and I can hear it letting air out (I can't think of how to describe the sound) and then it pops when I take the lid off. I thought I read somewhere that it had to be a tight container. I do open it 3xday to stir it, though. I will stop screwing the lid on tight now. Thanks.I just lay a cover over the top of my buckets. I do hope you're not screwing that lid down! Folks have covered tightly in glass jars before, and had the glass jar explode!
Was that the egg that was chirping??Here's a video of one of my eggs during water candling. It's not a youtube video so I can't embed it. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_6Hsv6OB2gtYjRRTXNzd0lyQlU
Is your hygrometer calibrated?I don't know why but for some reason I can not keep the humidity up in my bator. I put water in and 2 hours later the humidity is dropping again. I woke up this morning and it said 24%! I've tried adding the water to sponges and to the channels and it's like the water just disappears. It's been doing this for the last week or so.
That's their way of thanking you for the fancy new digs you're building for them.
Are all three of them doing good?? I LOVE all the pics!! They are so adorable! This might be a silly question, but do chicks that are hatched and raised with their mom, get pasty butt?We had a such beautiful day today! We did almost all of our school outside, (yes, we school through the small holdidays), and let the chickens range most of the day and then did our pumpkins. The chickens loved the pumpkin. I was able to get some fairly decent pics of mommy and baby and a couple others, so I have to share. These are actually from a couple days ago, but they are so sweet.![]()

All three of them are doing great! They each have different personalities. One is the brave explorer, one is a momma's whine butt and the other is right in between those two personalities...lol I suppose they do and can. I've only ever had one case in my second hatch and that was more extreme diarrhea than anything.Oh boy! Yes, I've been screwing the lid on and I can hear it letting air out (I can't think of how to describe the sound) and then it pops when I take the lid off. I'm sorry to laugh but I can picture your hens scheming on you, lol

At least you're getting eggs. All mine started molting 3 weeks ago. We went from 5-6 eggs per day to 4 to 2, then finally last week we got 6 one day, 4 the next, now 0 for the last 3 days in a row.
Mine are doing the same thing. At least my "yearlings" that give me the nice big eggs. Been a month since I've gotten more than 4 eggs. When one starts laying again one of the others stops and goes into molt. Between the shorter days and the molting they are killing me!
