She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm 35 but I look a little old for my age, unfortunately :/ All the years of drug addictions have not been kind to me, lol.

You traded one addiction for another, a chicken addiction.

You and I need a 12 step program for resisting buying endless amounts of eggs.

I too am a sober person...my family is chocked full of alcoholics. I decided I was going to raise my kids differently and I've been able to keep that promise. Clean and sober since I was in my teens. Its not easy but it's well worth it. Being addicted to chickens is a much safer route for me and more enjoyable.

LOL, 50 here but definitely don't act it... look it???

Yeah, my joints are all older than I am. My hair? Lots of sparkles there!

So... Question to those of you who use a carton for hatching those eggs with detached air cells, what do you mean when you say you cut the carton?
I've got bantam eggs in hatching and I'm in need of specifics regarding the carton. Last time I did it with full size eggs and did it with the cups cut away from the carton which resulted in the first chicks out of shell knocking everyone else over...
Tips are greatly appreciated.:-)
They refer to cutting the bottoms out to allow more air circulation. I've cut the bottoms out, and left them intact. Doesn't seem to make any difference. I'd leave the cups connected together if your bator allows room for that.

O gees... what color options are there post hatch? LOL... I think I might be going ORANGE

What color should their poop be at 1-2 days? My two are have bright green and clear excrements. I'm not real sure they are drinking on their own yet. I've been dipping their beaks into the water. I see them trying to peck at the food but don't seem to be picking it up. I'm trying not to interfere but I'm worried.

Congrats to you. That takes courage, commitment, and perseverence, and a lot of diligence! But... is a 12 step for hatching really necessary? I don't see that a little bator full here and there ever hurt any one! You may not be in a good place to be suggesting a hatching intervention here. None of us have any hatching problems here... it's just the rest of the world who don't understand!!!

Are you giving them electrlytes in their water? I'm not too worried for the first few days since they have weird poop and they are still getting nurishment from the yolk. Watery, clear, green, white, Brown...I've seen it all.

I'm a total tease. I just know I don't have the space to continue on like I've been going. I need to pause for the winter and build some more runs and coops before I take on anymore fuzzies.
For me raising chickens, watching their silly little personalities..its the most relaxing experience I know. They bring so much joy and teach my kids so much...raising them is awesome.
My sense of humor may not hit its mark with most people...for that I appologize. I make jokes about most things in my life.

I'd be inviting that bad boy to dinner. Get some hatchlings, then eat him.
I love it! My GD used to go out and sit on a hay bale and read books to the chickens. They'd all line up against the fence and listen with rapt attention.

Haven't had a rooster in awhile now and I must say I do miss his good moments.

I'm still trying to hide the sparkles. I think this hatching experience has added some, lol

No, I have some but haven't thought of it. I know about the three days so I'm not tooo worried yet

Do you give electrolytes to yours this early?

I think the weird poop is the equivalent of meconium. Their bodies are clearing all of the junk out of their digestive tract that built up during their development. Once they start eating, the poo will become more normal. I give my chicks Poultry Nutri-Drench to get them off to a good start. For the first week or so, I alternate a bottle mixed with ND with a bottle of plain water.
