Thanks Ravyn, I had read that, and called the agriculture office. That's who told me No, but she didn't even know the post office shipped live birds! Lol I found some possible loopholes for "pets" but was still researching, trying to find a way. I live very close to Ohio border and work with several Ohio residents, so I was going to check that too.

Napdog thank you! That might be a viable option too, we aren't that far apart. (hubby just got back from out your way)

You might have better luck getting a hold of the USDA, idk... it's an issue of different groups not talking to each other... Dept of Ag, APHIS, USDA and USPS... and this is why I don't ship, lol...

I bought one of these, but haven't tried it yet. My hubby thinks the cookie tin thing isn't safe. I would think depending on your setup, it could work, just be extra careful with the wires and stuff.

I made a call to our authorities and was told they were not allowed into WV, but I haven't done any further checking. I need to see what else I can find out, just been swamped at work, or BYCing more than I should lol

That's ok! He's actually my favorite cockerel! He's the only one mating the girls, he's friendly with me, he breaks up any confrontations that happen in the flock and he's always on the lookout for predators. I just wish he was the "right" color for where I'm headed. That's also why I would love for you to have him! I want this one to have a good home. I have 3 others boys besides him. One thinks he's a girl and acts like a girl. The other is possessed with hormones and the extra handsome one attacks me! I would love to find a way!

No person shall import any bird that is from a flock that is known to be infected with pullorum/typhoid or that is from an area under quarantine for Avian Influenza or Viscerotropic Velogenic Newcastle Disease. The commissioner requires that any bird that is imported into this state be accompanied by a statement completed and signed by the owner of the bird upon entry into this state that the bird has been free from disease for the 30 days prior to the importation of the bird and did not originate from a flock known to be infected with pullorum/typhoid; and United States Department of Agriculture Form 9-2 from the tester stating that the birds have been tested for pullorum typhoid within 3 months prior to the date of the importation; or a United States Department of Agriculture Form 9-3 from the tester indicating that the bird has originated from a flock that is not infected with pullorum/typhoid.

Do you know if I can be the tester?

My grandfather is a hardcore pigeon breeder for races around the country and I asked him about it and I said that Ohio might be an option and this is exactly what he said to me! Lol. He has a lot of customers in Ohio and no one there is happy! He didn't know about WV, though.

I just took a look at them! Return it, WV! I still have to look at Sally's thread but I was trying to not spend to much. The coop/run is right out my back door, so it's not that much trouble bring out hot water. I've just been scooping out the top layer of ice and adding hot water to what's still liquid. But it hasn't been that cold yet and I just want one for inside the coop for when they wake up before I get out there.

what I think is it would be safer than anything else I've seen . the heated base element is not covered on the bottom on plastic or metal . if you use the fish tank heater how do you get it in the easy fill waterier. I can see it working only in a pan or trough or covered waterier with drinking nipples. or a float system . also it has to stay submerged or it will burn out quicker .but I live in the mid south so my water is out side . I can see it working well for me . If you use a heated fountain base make sure you have it on a fire proof surface that is above the bedding or flour cover .I have my waterier sitting on eight inch concrete blocks two beside each other . you should check out GQF they have a full range of chicken supplies . I saw a lot of neat stuff when I searched their web site . while ordering parts . @ ross farms you for sure they are in your town

You're better off adding cold water. Sounds bassackward, until you consider that warm water is going to freeze faster due to evaporation.

That's the one I've got, set on a piece of flagstone under a roof. Worked great last year and is working well this year so far.

Amazon reviews are much better. But its more expensive. I'll look on a few other sites for reviews too.
Also have to consider that some people will try to run an extension cord not rated for the product, then blame the product. Or something stupid like that. Just sayin...
