She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

WHAT A COINCIDENT, One of my girls stepped on an egg and SURE enough, I need to do something quickly. I tried to look for my Vaseline, OF COURSE, No one knows where the heck it is, So I tried looking for the Neosprine, NOPE NOT IN SITE Either.

So what I ended up doing is Putting a VITAMIN E oil on it. YES, that's right, I figured TWO THINGS, One it can't hurt it no chemicals, and TWO if she eats it IT"S OK. It's safe for her to eat. DOUBLE WHAMMY. Will see how this goes..

After hearing several people say how great Easter chick sales were, I set a bunch of my own eggs to sell (basically to offset the cost of running the incubator for the eggs I wanted to hatch).  So far no takers.

We got lucky. A lady that is on one of the buy sell trade Facebook pages, is buying all of the chicks

What are your venues? Those are EE and OE? Whatr u askn?
What are your venues? I have 4 boys ready to go over here.

We have a couple of local Facebook pages. They are not strictly for chickens or ducks, but they are for selling stuff

And of course we have the ever present craigslist

I came to check in lookin for good news too :hit im so sorry Ruby! Put signs up! If i was closer id provide eggs for reward but i know u dont get that many, as high of quality as your birds are tho, are you prepared to offer a reward??
I did put up some sings. I felt kinda like a crazy person putting up "missing chickens-reward" signs but having chickens had made me do a lot of "firsts". Lol.
Thanks. That's what I have done so far. It seems to be weak, also and something is up with its wings, it holds them funnily. I tried wrapping gauze around it to keep them in place, but the poor thing really COULDN'T move at all. I have been keeping a band aid with ointment on its naval and it seems to be receding a bit. :) The internally pipped one externally pipped last night and I just helped it hatch and it's walking around like it's nothing. :) Sorry about your birds. Hope they turn up! :fl
Thank you and great job on the assists!! :hugs
Well, this one still hasn't hatched. Still see blood veins. He still peeping and opening and closing his mouth like he is sucking up the yolk. Something has to be wrong or do some take that long? I don't know what to do.

I saw your update that it hatched. I had one egg that took forever! 48 hours of external pip. The fluid in the egg started to turn to glue. But veins were still very active! There was nothing I could do but watch and hope for the best. It ended up being ok and hatched.
Boy, what a long day/night/day. I was full on red team this go around and I am glad I was or only two of them would have made it. We have 6 that are in the clear now!! I am really torn about what to do with the scissor beak chick, though. It's still alive, and bless its poor little heart, it wants out. But the scissor beak is really bad and I have heard/read that when it's that bad at hatch, mortality rate is high. Here is a pic, tell me what you guys think:
I've not had to deal with this yet. I've seen a few posts on FB and some people have responded saying that they take in special needs chicks/adults. If it hatches or if you help it hatch, maybe someone would take it in. Just a thought. It's a tough decision but whichever way you choose will be the right way to go! Update when you can. :hugs
LOL, I'm sure you have seen my girls. Here's one, pic is a little old but this is what I get to deal with. LOL
She's beautiful! I think I'm going to get hair ties or headbands for mine before I even think of letting them free range again!

So... I am a little upset right now. Of the 12 lavender orpington eggs that I set 10 days ago, only 2 are developing. I guess I must have gotten unlucky with my egg choice, and picked some of the newer layer's eggs. But the sebright and OEGB eggs look great! Lost one sebright, blood ring on day 8.

My question is, I know we have talked about differences between infertile and unviable. Is it possible to tell the difference, once incubation has started?

I did have a friend just set a dozen of my LO eggs, 8 developed and all 8 hatched. I think she got them set before the newer pullets started laying. I'm stopping by Rural King on my way home today to buy another incubator to use as a hatcher. Was going to repair my old one, but I don't really know what's wrong with it, and I think it would just be easier (and as economical) to buy another one.

I've never heard of there being a way to tell after they have been incubating.

I was asked about Meyers hatchery earlier. Someon had heard that their chicks are often "sickly" and wanted to know if I had any experience with them, which I don't, but I told them I'd ask around. Has anyone had any experience with them and what did you think?
