Look at this crap... could be worse I guess.

I have Wed and Thurs off work.. wanted to do outside work - guess I'll need a poncho and thermal underwear.
I had Wheaten Ameraucana eggs coming this week from peachick, but asked her to hold off until next week. Hoping the lows aren't so cold soon. I'm also hoping for better luck on these eggs. I am going to try setting and turning sooner. Set for 6 hours, put in the bator and commence to turning after a few hours. Of course I'll candle and may have a hard time sticking to that if I have a bunch of loose air cells. I want these chicks pretty bad..

Our night time lows are supposed to be 5* through Wed. Then moving into rain.

I'm multi/purposing. Using MHP under one seedling tray, just set an other tray on top of the cooler-bator. That extra heat should have those seeds jumping out of the soil. Not sure if it's illness, the fact that I have 2 bators going, or what, but I'm not overwhelmed by the urge to candle every day this season. Perhaps it's because my egg count has doubled.

We are also having a major cold snap!

They did, I sold mine a few months ago.  It was a Polyhatch.  You can find them every once in a while.  They are also adjustable horizontal turners.

Oh, and I used to think that forced air hatchers were causing my hatching woes...I was wrong.  I have three forced air hatchers running right now and they are all turning out perfect chicks.

Well I love my mini for the whole 9 yards. It meets and exceeds my expectations every time. But the octagon 20 is difficult for lockdown/hatch. The fan is just so powerful in that thing, it's hard to maintain higher humidity that I like at hatch. So I'd like to experiment with a still air for my bigger hatches. Also wouldn't hurt to have an extra bator around, ya know just in case I want to set an extra batch and need some wiggle room till another opens up.

So I will take that paint partridge chick off your hand Ruby!!! LoL!!!!  I think its beautiful! Has the weather cleared up any up there??

I agree on the challenges with the Eco 20 for keeping the wells full. I might make some mods for mine to make filling the trays from outside easier. But it holds humidity great if I don't keep taking the top off.

I built a forced air cooler hatcher that works great. But I am also having great success with hatching in the Ova Easy, with a full view door. I don't like it as much for incubating, but it does make a great hatcher. I may pull one shelf out and refit it as a dedicated hatcher.

Ruby, I'm sure a whole extra bator is not a bad thing, in your case, but I also thought you might like to see this. You have the Eco, right? So it may not have humidity controls built into the menu, but if it does, this could be a cheaper alternative to Brinsea's humidity pump, and all the other ways of getting the humidity up. An add-on humidifier.

I've heard of some people drilling a hole in the side of the octagon 20 and running aquarium tubing right to the well. That way you can keep adding water without opening. Well you're always finding good incubators and refurbishing them. So if you come across a good hatcher let me know!

That's exactly what I was thinking. A small drop loop to serve as an air gap and to measure inside water level
