@casportpony i got me a poop question!

Today I noticed Bill (the hen, the one that kept throwing up her meds) had very runny, dark brown poop. And very stinky :sick sorry the picture quality is not that good I took from inside the house....she pooped just outside our sliding glass door this evening.

Are the meds doing this to her or should I be concerned? Ted (the drake) is pooping fine

Oh no worries, no blood drawn.....

I'm moving this over here to not hijack the feed thread, hope you don't mind :)

I'm not sure how the vet could have known they were getting too much of one vitamin and not enough of others without doing a blood draw and checking the levels of the vitamins in the blood. I know your drake was yellowing, but that can be caused by the sun, eating corn, eating dark leafy greens, etc. Unless she was just going by the amount of vitamins that are in the feed and thought some were too high and some too low for ducks, although I think the bag only lists levels of Vitamin A and E.

I know the vet visit was very hectic, so maybe something was lost in communication. Hopefully your phone call tomorrow clears it up.

Dont mind at all! In fact, I thank you!

Yes communication was lost...all I know is that she was adamant on me changing the food:idunno and since she is an avian vet, I took her serious... maybe too serious...

I have been trying to reply to this all day, what a busy day!!! Thank you for asking
Last night was the last night of their meds:weethat was the longest 14 days EVER!!!

Ted is doing great!! His yellow is fading back into white:DBill on the other hand, laid yet another two eggs yesterday one hard one soft. I do believe that the soft shelled egg issues this time around has to do with me changing their food per the vet and the guy at feed store telling me "this is all they need to be on, even layers".....well after reviewing all the types of feed out there and seriously taking into account all that I have learned here.... I have put her back on back on purina layer feed! I will start to do the calcium and peas in the morning since she did not lay an egg today.:barnie I gave her kale for the 1st time today since the vet appointment and she was in heaven. I have them separated again because this last two weeks of this polar vortex I felt that the extra body heat they produce laying next to each other would be in their best interest......little did I know of the amount of breeding going on in just 2 short weeks. She has a bald spot on her neck:th

Monday is their follow up appointment and I hop their poop test comes back good and they don't have to take meds. :fl

That’s ok. We all have those crazy days. I’m glad you no longer have “big bird” :lau.

Yes, this couldn’t be worse timing to have to spend a good chunk of time each day doctoring them! Brrrr. Just for conversation sake, what kind of feed did you have at your local feed store? I really liked the purina feed at TSC. I don’t typically buy it now because it’s an extra 30 min drive for me. Poor Bill..... I know laying issues have a genetic component but I’d be curious to know if mating/over mating or aggressive mating plays a role in the health of the females reproductive tract. Not that I expect you to have an answer, but just thinking aloud.

I hope the nasty weather is calming down for you as it is for me. Almost 60 degrees today! I was smiling and felt like walking on air all day! Good luck at their appointment! I’m hoping for a good report.:fl

Ted will forever be......Ted, AKA - Big Bird lol

Oh man was it cold!! Tomorrow will be 53 here! It felt so good to don't have to put the 19 layers on to go out to the ducks!

The small local feed store had Buckeye nutrition Big-4-pellets, which is duck specific but it's only a maintenance feed, not a layer feed. The TSC here has purina, dumor and another brand. I did find that the Family farm and home store does have a duck & geese feed made here in Michigan, but one of the 1st 3 ingredients was "animal protein product of pork origin" Wth is that!!! Lol so I took a pass on buying it. Ted is on the big 4 pellets and Bill is on purina layer pellets. I like the pellets a lot more too, less messs.

I do think that mating/over mating could play a factor in her eggs, or lack there of....I just can't prove it!!! Lol
I will keep you posted on Monday!!!
