Shell less duck egg with broken yolk next to it

Sorry, I should have specified... what I mean by 2 in the chute at once is that 2 eggs are being released to go down the oviduct at once, instead of just 1... it takes approx 26 hrs for the egg to grow and form to proper size for laying, and for the membrane to develop and the shell to overlay it all... if she is dropping a 2nd egg within same 24hr period, then she has 2 in the works at once and is just laying them at short intervals...

Also, the last egg you posted looked like it had a slight circular pattern on its side, that is caused by 2 eggs in the reproductive tract at the same time, touching as they grow and develop...

To also clarify, these *are not* issues common with a young layer... they are indicative of a reproductive issue in the bird itself... whether that may be not enough calcium absorption, genetic, or disease caused, it is not normal for these glitches to happen several times in a row... once, yes, not several times within a week...

Hello...Yes...It is common if you raised Chickens too?..In a week or two that Hen will be laying great eggs..I'm 100% positive nothing is wrong with her...Sorry but I'm not an idiot and do not mean to contradict anyone..I strongly feel I'm right though...Sorry..

X2 on this, I raise ducks, chickens, geese, and guineas, and have also started with peafowl and turkeys this year. I've never had a new layer give me three shell-less eggs in a row of any species, and that's over ten years of raising them all. If I did have a bird doing that, I'd be trying to get extra calcium into her ASAP because she needs it.

Hopefully the calcium will clear it up, but high production breeds like pekins are prone to reproductive issues because of the sheer amount of eggs they lay.

Exactly! And yes, I raise chickens and turkeys as well... issues like that in *any* egg laying species would have me concerned...

Correct, I feel the same.:(

thank you for your input, I really do appreciate.... but it also makes sad that this could be an on going problem....:hmm

We get it that you think you are right. But there is no harm in anything else being recommended. Let the OP decide what she wants to try from every recommendation, including yours. All opinions count, but it's up to the bird owner.

:hugs

And that is why we are concerned, but also why it is important to give her the higher dose of calcium... if she corrects from higher calcium intake, then she is just one that needs higher calcium when she is laying...
