Shot goose help...

I would suggest super glue as well IF there is enough skin to close the wound .... I do wonder why you feel (or fear) infection of the maggots? Maggots have been used to clean wounds of humans for thousands of years... they only eat the dead and rotting flesh leaving only clean healthy flesh behind. That said, I don't know how large the larvae will get before they get brushed off.

If nothing else, I would put neosporin (sp) and rub it in best she will let you of course, then wipe the rest off.

Neosporin won't keep bugs out. Go to the nearest farm store or TSC, go to the equine section and buy a jar of SWAT. It's a wound cream made specifically for livestock that is designed to both help keep the wound clean and healing as well as keeping bugs out of it. Smear it on the wound, liberally and let her be. She can be in with the rest of the flock.

thank you:)

You could give her a dose of Ivermectin and repeat in 10 days. Not only does it kill many endoparasites but some ectoparasites (maggots for one example) as well. That way, any maggots that do form will be killed right away and not take over the wound.

Here is a pic of the wound. I did not want to upset her by getting to close with the camera

My husband is stopping by the feed store for the SWAT on his way home today. I took the pellet out and she is cleaning herself more than usual so I hope this helps keep her wound clean!!!
Thank You all for your help and suggestions

Whew, I know it's not great, but I was imagining it to look a whole lot worse!
Looks to me like this would heal well.

This is not true in South Texas. We have several fly species here that eat living tissue - the screw worm maggot for one....

Exactly maggots are deadly in a wound..they will burrow into the head and kill your goose. Ask other members that have lost chickens due to maggots getting into wounds.. they burrow/eat into the body cavity, and its not pretty.

What about SWAT? Its a cream you put on animals wounds to keep flys away... woked great for my goat when she had surgery...
Not sure if birds can use SWAT though.... maybe call a farm vet and ask??

ETA: Nevermind, i see Olive Hill suggested SWAT also!
