Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

ONE egg today. I imagine that the girls are getting adjusted to the new area. I could see drag marks in the bedding indicating that someone was trying to move a plastic egg into the other nest. Yesterday, before the coop move, there were two plastic eggs in the same nest with Penny's fresh laid egg. She made a huge fuss yesterday when we moved the coop. She even jumped into the coop and then into her nest as we took the coop apart.

After the coop was moved, she kept going into the old pen looking for and trying to jump into a non existent coop. Poor thing.

We felt bad for her. She kept running up to us yelling and squawking. Bring back my babies!! I hope she is going broody... We hurried and got everything just right. When we got the door on the pen... I grabbed some treats and the girls cam running and hopped right in. It is a good spot with some afternoon sun, but not too much in the Summer. I plan on putting in a dust bath and a staggered outdoor roosting area.
CLUCK... CLUCK.... CLUCK....

I ordered a Broad Breasted White and 3 Bourbon Red turkeys through a friend. Turns out the BR are not coming until next month, so I knew I had to either pick up another BBW or a chick while at the feed store (no minimum!). So, I was messaging my friend yesterday when I decided to just call the feed store. I looked it up online, assumed I had the right place, and called. A not-so-nice woman informed me that I did not have a poult on order, all poults coming in were accounted for, they were sold out of chicks, and that the chicks for this Friday were sold out too.
I had no choice but to bother my friend today. She called, and they told her that they had not put in the order for my poult, that they do still have all the chicks she saw Friday, and would have plenty more this Friday. Okay, so I was lied to about the chicks when I called. Weird, but whatever. So then there was the no poult problem. There were many solutions, but she surprised me. She will let me have her 2 BBW poults. She wants to go away for Easter, and was worried about what she would do with them while she was gone. She ordered two more for herself for May. So, I now get two poults, and the BR will be coming while DH is home next month (a concern I had). All is working out!!

Now for the problem. Chicks. Kinds I don't have as well as Barred Rocks. No minimums according to the store. No maximums according to DH.

Whatever is a girl to do? I only want a few.... Of each. Though I am selling off another 10 or so of my current flock to keep feed bills down. Don't I need some California Whites, Speckled Sussex, and the other breeds they have?

I need them, right? A chick is a must when you get poults! How are they supposed to learn how to eat and drink?!

If you are not aware, turkey poults are really stupid. They will die of hunger or starvation in front of the food and water. They are more likely to eat the bedding, and for longer. A chick will show them where to eat and drink, and what to eat/not eat.

I would have charged! You did her the favor by taking them in. Giving you a bag of food is nice but doesn't begin to cover the true cost of your time spent taking care of them!

If you feel bad next time charge her but throw in a couple extra for free.

Nice set up scrambles. Your pen for your 4 is gonna make my pen seem small!!! After all I'll have 20+.

Silly dog decided to check out the cat tower!!

Sorry for lost loved ones. Congratulations on all the new ones. About a inch of new snow on the ground this morning. 60's tomorrow. Happy St Patrick's Day. Dogs are cool. Kids are awesome. Goats are a consideration someday.

Thank you for your kind words Cheeka and W4W. I will take some pictures of the EE's tomorrow when the weather is better. We have had terrible thunder storms all day with tornado warnings up until 11 pm tonite. With the terrible weather I decided to keep all the chickens free ranging so that they could seek shelter from the rain. They were all soaking wet when I went to the barn to put them to bed around 7 pm tonite. Dummies. But, when I got to the barn, my roo Johnny Cash was being beat up by another of my roos, Ichabod. Normally Johnny boots Ichabod off any hen he is mounting if Johnny is around. Johnny is in really bad shape. He was barely standing and Ichabod kept pecking him and jumping on him. He has all of his facial fuzz pulled out and his head was bloody and he was breathing funny. I cleaned him up and put him in a water trough that I keep for chicks with food and water. I guess I will see how he made it through the nite. Any one else ever have that happen or did you catch it before it went this far? I hate seeing him suffer but I don't know if I could actually put him down if he is still in rough shape by morning. I have 30 hens and 3 roos, and they all worked out their flocks before. Not sure what changed. Johnny was the first chick I ever hatched.
