Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Kind of makes you want to put a bell on them, but that would drive me nuts too! So many times I've gone looking through the house for Scooter the Pest (dogs only allowed in kitchen & family room) only to find him in his bed.

Cream colored dog on cream colored fleece cushion. Good camouflage. Some days I really feel my age!

That is my house. My dog Harley was hard to find, and now my DH's dog (this stupid mutt!) Sturgis. Sometimes I have to touch the bed just to convince myself he is or isn't there. 100% camouflage!

Someone was in a new box again today, but no eggs in there again. She got out, and waited for the old box. I put her in a new one, she jumped out, and the hen in the old box popped out with a thin shell. All egg laying was forgotten as everyone tried to get that shell. I was left the duty of cleaning out the box. Yeay.

I will go check, maybe I will finally have my eggs.

The temp is already 65 today, on the to do list is fresh bedding for the nests today...have to make a trip to the sawmill before the rains come this week. Then once the poarch overhang is done I'll be ready for winter...maybe move my feed onto the poarch as well. (Make a covered walkway over to the coop...or heck, just move the whole coop closer) ha. The walk over there seems so much farther away in 3 feet of snow....frozen egg anyone?

It hit 68 in the city today. it was so nice out, i was so bummed to be stuck working. it was a 201 mile day. although tired, i spent about an hour and a half outside with everyone. it was still quite warm and it was fun to run around with the dog, burn off the stress of the day.
I'm completely wiped out. gonna fall asleep right here.

Impossible you say? Yes, I know I only have 11 pullets and only 8 of them lay.

I tracked down where MIA Matilda was during her vanishing act. Today she was the first to leave the run and then promptly disappeared! I found her behind and under a pile of lumber, in a little bitty space. I left her there to see how long she'd stay, and after several hours, went and pushed her off her little nest and found 11 eggs. Good grief!

The dogs will get most of those. I'm glad she's laying again after her broody stint earlier this summer. Now I have to figure out how to get her to use the nest boxes again. Happily surprised that nothing ate those eggs before I found them!

She was going to wait till she laid one more so she could present you with a dozen all by herself. I have one like that. Not going to mention any names.

They will get it eventually. The ideal pattern is 5 & 7. Adjust your pie so they get more on the days with the biggest number of eggs. Motivates them.
